...and, it's got yet another broken spring pin... :grinpimp:

yeah, this

We've not been able to correlate spring pin failures to specific incidents.

This break is nicely visible because we tried to flex the suspension in order to determine tire/tub contacts. That may have bent the hanger... The previous breaks were only visible to the trained eye.

Tools R Us has suggested to go to FJ60(?) springs with the bigger spring eyes, allowing for bigger bushings, and RuffStuff spring hangers.

If I remember right, that suggestion was agreed to be tabled in order to prevent mission creep? :)

I am not so gung-ho on it since there are even fewer suppliers for 60 springs than for a 40

Project Creep at the Spa?? Surely you jest sir!:hillbilly:

something is happening

actually, this is how this whole major rebuild started:

"you have a definite leak at the rear main" - :frown: - "yeah, transmission/transfer needs to come out to fix that" - next thing, I find a MUD ad for an H55 - "the transmission needs to come out anyway, yes ? so why not . . . " - H55 purchased and transported (thanks mountain cruiser for all the help) to the location where it solidly held the garage floor down for a year :hillbilly:

then, in late June 2013, the truck enters the Spa . . . (click to post 1 of this thread to read the history of all the other mods that have happened since) . . .

and finally now . . . :bounce: :bounce2: :bounce:

Looking good Claudia! I love your posts they always make me laugh :grinpimp:

As a new fellow mudder, NEW 40 owner, and recently retired law enforcement officer of 24 years... (Scottsdale PD) I assure you, this law you speak of with the license plate frames had nothing to do with the Officer's in the field not recognizing the AZ plates... It was strictly for the wonderful photo-radar (PR) program many cities have adopted here in our wonderful state... (I hated photo-radar by the way.) but, as the municipalities were trying to issue their PR tickets, there was a discrepancy of some states not being visible or identifiable for issuance of the PR ticket, then it became morphed into AZ name not being visible, and since no one actually stopped the vehicle to verify registration or driver info etc, it became an issue... So the new more restrictive law was born..... So please give the poor Officer's some credit... :) Now, I am almost through this thread and love what I see here... Getting ideas for my cruiser... Reading, reading and more reading. Thanks for all the awesome information here... One of these days, I will make it out to a meeting and join the Adventures in my "new" 40... Thanks for the pics and info...

Doesn't it make sense that an actual Officer should stop the vehicle and verify registration? I don't like those things.

What is more likely to change driving behavior - a marked cruiser on the side of the road or a camera?

So the 5 speed is happening now?

Let's see some pics!

those pics are from Friday

Claudia,
I am curious to know what you are going to do for a parking brake? I had a new H55F and a split case installed in my 40 a while back. I also have a disk brake conversion at all four corners. My park brake has been a wheel chock ever since.:bang:
I am currently looking for a solution and have considered the TSM kit that Georg has used with some of his builds. It would be best to have something that uses brakes on the rear axle but I do not want to go back to drums.

Anyway, I assume you have a plan:wrench:

Yes it does make perfect sense... Photo radar does nothing to slow traffic down. It will at the moment they pass the radar vehicle, but then cars speed right back up. Red light cameras however... Do prevent people / drivers from running a red light. I am okay with those as they have prevented accidents at high accident locations from red light running. I would prefer an officer over a radar / photo unit any day though... The cruiser clearly sends the BIGGER message and has the biggest impact...

the rig now has a 60 axle with self-adjusting rear drums and parking brake that is not hooked up yet

There was no intention to offend, the :hillbilly: is indicative of jest.

... and sounds bad ass with the exhaust off, open header for the win!:hillbilly:

I already hated the Flowmaster

Anyway, decided we had obsessed enough and need to make room for this!:hillbilly: So, somethings are going to have to move.

As Claudia posted the transfer is apart, getting converted from vac to manual shift, resealed, etc, we are missing a couple of parts, so will post those pix together, later.
