I removed my FJ40’s transmission “hump” to clean things up. Can someone please help me ID the sensor i have circled? Think i might replace it before I button everything up.

Thanks much!

Are you sure the yellow wire is your reverse switch? On my 79 4spd, the reverse switch wire from the harness is light blue with a red stripe, and as I recall, the switch is located where you have circled.

The switch on top connects to a blue wire w/ a yellow tracer. The aft switch has two red wires with blue tracers inside protective yellow sleeve.

Ill dig up my wiring diagram 🤔

Thanks for your input.

My FJ has been de-smogged. The blue/yellow wire must be cut off somewhere?

Thanks.

Wire is probably terminated under the dash. Not connected to anything shouldn't be a problem. Only a single wire it just makes to ground when the switch is closed. The bottom transmission in the picture is from a 78. Switch was used 8/76-1/79. Can see the reverse light switch on the back of all three transmissions. Couple the wires are broken off.

The switch was the last in a series of vacuum interrupts between the distributor advancer diaphram and the ported vacuum on the carburetor. The VSV, even when all temp sensors were properly warmed, would still not let the vacuum advance through to the dizzy until you were in 4th gear. :banghead:
