You gotta teach me how to weld, my driver's side body mount is shot!

Nice slippahs!!

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. God knows I need it. lol
ChuckB anytime you want to come out and check it out is cool. I may not be qualified to teach, but you can sample the welder for sure.
All I've got done recently is this little floor patch. That corner by the pass seat is a bitch to redo!

I had to redo one of those corner sections also and it was not any fun. I ended up cutting a piece that fit pretty well but had a gap to fill that recieve a good dose of 'booger welding.' I figured it was better than what was previously there and by the time it rusts back through my Piggie will probably have been beat to a pulp.

Good work!

More pics. First is the floor support. Next is the inner rocker. It came out all right I think. It was a little difficult because I had to bend the top on 16 gauge metal and it had a slight curve to it afterwards. Question for you all: I about to the point where I'm gonna start putting metal over metal. Should I paint all that first and then weld through it when the time comes? Ex: I am gonna lay down the floor boards soon. This goes on top of the floor supports which need to be welded after the floors go down. Do I paint and then weld or just leave them bare when I lay down the floor boards?

I believe the answer is to get some zinc based weld through primer to protect the bare metal. I am no body man though - so you may want to double check my answer in the body forum...

Ya, I checked with a welding forum that I'm also a member of and they said the same thing. So I picked up some rustoleum cold galvanizing compound, which has a high zinc content, just like they said. I also picked up some LPS3, which is a rust inhibiting oil that was recommended by brownbear in the paint/body section. I've had a killer past 2 weeks with tests, so I haven't done much. Just another floor patch. O-chem is kicking my ass this semester. My GF wanted to help out with the cruiser so I picked up this little Wagner airless paint gun from Home Depot. I've got several cans of zero rust which I'm gonna use for the pig. The second pic is the floor patch and the third pic is the Passenger A-pillar which I'm gonna work on after the floor is done. The door was barely holding on before I took it off lol.

Started painting the doors yesterday. I noticed several things about my sprayer.
1: The paint comes out really fast. I used up a lot of paint really fast
2: I need to make light coats. I have to remember that the whole thing doesn't need to be covered completely with one coating. Just like the roll on method
3: Bugs love paint. Within 30 seconds, the bugs were just hopping on up.
4: Keep the reservoir filled otherwise the paint will start spitting out.

update time!

Finally finished up the passenger side floor. I've got to clean and paint, but I'm going to strip the whole interior then paint with zero rust. Did a patch on the firewall that was totally rusted out too. I also did some more on the fender as you can see in the last two pics. The upper and lower fender patches aren't lining up very nicely at all, so I'm gonna hammer them into place, then weld and paint. Hopefully that will hold. I really wish that I could just get a new set from Toyota. :frown:

Well the Blue Bomber is looking really good. I have to say that the welds are really getting good. I lived in Hawaii for almost 8 years and believe me I understand the issue with rust. But it looks like you are taking everything into consideration to prevent the cancer that comes from fixing panels and having exposed naked metal. Keep up the good work. I'm sure I'll be looking back to your Thread when get started with mine in a few months.

Sean,

What are you doing on Sunday? If you are working on the 55 I could stop by. I'll shoot you a PM.

Chuck

Sounds good man. I'll be home. Send me a pm later and we can exchange phone numbers.

Bought some sheet metal today and the prices seemed a little quirky. 24"x24" 16 gauge was $15 and 24"x24" 20 gauge was $41. That seemed a little odd to me that I paid less money for more material. But, I figured that the 20 gauge was more expensive because it was cold-rolled.

PM sent!

Nothing to really update. The pig has to sit for a while. I'm doing finals this week, so working will be minimum. Then, its got to sit for another 3 weeks while I do some medic training. I've got to redo the paint on the doors. That sprayer I bought put the paint on too thick. My nail can sink in easily. Lession learned: use spray paint or get a spray gun.

Mini-update: sprayed the rest of the doors with zero rust white spray paint. It's nice. Here's some pics. In the second one you can see how soft the paint was when I leaned it up against the seat. I had left them sitting in the sun for a full day before doing that. That damn sprayer just put too much on.
