i agree in some way this is a outside the box influance to cause this same in kind falure to 2 oem 16400 units japan ?

think earthquake for a moment .............

we WILL all collectivly solve this urgent matter , because that's what we do best .... :)

With extra room in the radiator fan shroud, I added a few rubber washers to help with vibration. Thanks to @thebigredrocker for the drain line info.

OEM radiator rubber washers, do you have the part number? I used some grommets when I reinstalled mine, might have to track some of those ones down.

Here is a trick I used to drain my OEM radiator. First, loosen up the brass plug on the draincock. Take some plastic (I actually used the plastic off a case of water I just bought) and make a tube out of it. Size it just larger than the daincock....Now that you have that plastic tube, get a zip tie and zip tie the plastic tube to the upper part of the draincock. With a 5 gallon bucket below, now open the plastic a bit to get to the brass plug and remove it. This process doesn't make a mess of the garage.........however, when you remove the lower radiator hose, you will have some extra coolant that will drain. So there is that, that will make a mess if you are not prepared for it.

Note, the CSF radiator uses a M10-1.5 thread for a simple plastic plug. Didn't like it so I ran across what @thebigredrocker came up with out of AN fittings. I'm sure when the time comes to drain this radiator, it will be a little easier to deal with, but will take longer to drain. But that is left to be dealt with for the future.

OEM Radiator Brace Rod Cushion: 90540-10022 (9/71 - 7/80)
 
I filled up the new radiator last night. Being the old Toyota antifreeze was fairly new, I reused it. However, before I put it back in, I strained the old antifreeze thru several layers of cheesecloth. I was amazed there was sediment was in there, being that the cooling system is a closed loop.

As for why I knew to strain the coolant? Well, when I took the drain plug out, it had debris on it.

Radiator cap comes in today, so I'll fire up my 40 and burp the system tonight.

Thanks for the part number on these cushions Rick, recently put new 4 core in the ‘76 and a new one in the ‘78, just two years ago. On the ‘78 they were completely missing on the passenger side and intact, but shrunken on the drivers side🙄. Will be up north to check out the ‘76 this coming weekend to see what is needed on the ‘76. I can see where the cushions are very important to limit vibration/movement. It is all in the details! How is that new radiator working mount? Able to fix the OEM 4 core? I imagine as it is copper it should be fixable. Cheers 🍻

That always puzzles me. No matter how clean ya think ya got it and how many new components ya have, it seems you can always get a bit of something out of there besides coolant. Maybe flakes of corrosion that coolant can't stop? Maybe hoses degrade and fluff off a bit? I don't know. Probably never will.

NOTE: A big help for keeping your stitching tight, I used an 8" piece of Velcro banding once I worked about 6" of the wheel and cinched the threads.
 
How’s the radiator holding up? A new one has just quickly moved to the top of my list for my 71. Looks like the one you used covers my year.

After a few hundred miles, all seems well....(knock on wood)
