I was about to post up saying you should move the motor back. It's great now. As far back as possible is best.

Yup, I think the effort was worth it.

Tomorrow; motor mounts finalized, body mounts double checked, possibly getting the subtank fitted. Looking good to hit my goal (body off to get blasted. Axles, frame off to get blasted and painted. Hand the motor and trans off to their builders) before I leave Boise.

It went together surprisingly well. Aside from the re-hosing my back at some point. Glad I brought my brace.

I may buy the Holly high-mount kit if the p/s pump hits the p/s box. I think it'll clear though. Even with the current high mount alternator it clears the hood no problem. Tons of room in front of the engine for various cooling devices. Either way, the motor is going to be re-did by Kevin at 208 Motorsports. He may be doing the full wiring as well if we can strike a deal.

Incredible how much work you guys get done......such a cool build.

I am happy with it. It could go back a bit farther but I don’t think it’s needed and would require massaging the firewall which is kind of lame and a last resort for me.

Harmonic balancer is roughly 5” center to center on the front axle and I am cool with that. We were going to run it as the Marks adapter intended but there are reasons the adapter puts it where it puts it. Reasons that don’t need to come into play in a build like this. This is fully 100% custom and we can put any of it right where we want.

Engine inclination front to rear is spot on at 2.5*. Chassis is level and square on the body and engine is square (as possible) and centered (as much as possible) in the engine bay. Engine is also good and low and everything clears at max compression. There is enough clearance in the wheel wells to stuff a 33, a 35” will be very close. There are ways around that though too. Tony wanted to keep the body low, there are a lot of good reasons to do that. No idea how it will play out with exhaust at this point but really it’s pretty much all right where we want it.

We will probably have to notch the cross member now that we pushed back the t-case but not the cross member. Not a big deal at all and there just might be room to run a DC front shaft if required.

Cheers

Oh ya, we yanked it all out at the end of the day.....

Engine is ready to go out to our builder. We will be dropping off the trans and t-case at the rebuild shop tomorrow as well.

Couple days and we should h e the body mounts all welded on the chassis.

Oh ya! :)

You don't have the right parts guys... partsouq was anywhere from 10-25% more expensive than my local guys there in the UAE.

But I am mega impressed with how quickly it made it's way to you.
PartSouq won’t deliver in the UAE. Can you believe it!?!

Forgot to mention, The guys at @Delta VS are interested in fabbing up my bumpers since it'll have to be a custom job. This won't be for a while, obviously. I saw some of their models for the gold PZJ Ian built, bumpers and sliders. They scan the rig into Solidworks (maybe it was Fusion360?) and build off of that for very precise stuff. It was very cool. Dave over there has been awesome helping us out metal work for the Troopy with our short timeframe. They're pretty busy over there but keep them in mind, I highly suggest if anyone is wanting some gear, the guys at @Delta VS are top notch. They're mostly in the 80 realm now, but looks like they're spreading to other LCs. The 70 market is pretty small in the US but also wide open.

Not a paid advertisement. :D But I'm gladly going to slap a Delta sticker on the Troopy when she's done. 👍

I lied, #6 seems to have slipped through the cracks.

:grinpimp:

No worries though as it’s easy to get four more plates cut out.

Tomorrow is going to be a full day of welding all these in.

I check a few this evening, very happy with my design and layout. Had thought about having these bent up or could have done them like I did the last 80-series chassis swap, i.e. cut them all out of rectangle tube. I think this will look real good though and work out killer. All built out of 3/16’s, plenty stout. We are even going to weld in “pucks” for the top rubber mount. ;)

Last post for tonight....

We will be welding this rear most crossmember back in. It is 3/4” of an inch on an 80 back from where the frame rails end but I think we will be slightly farther back on it. Reason being, location of where rear most body mount lands. I was pretty surprised but the 80 frame rails came out very close to where we need them from the 80 to the Troopy. We did not modify any part of the chassis behind the rear axle yet. This means, an 80 and a Troopy have a pretty similar ass! ;)

Cheers
