See? I kinda like that! Did you paint it black or are they available that color from Toyota?

Anyways, I'm back to crawling around my hotel room like an invalid. Guess the meds they gave only worked for one day.
Heading back to Utah tomorrow so Ian will be solo for now.

Painted. We had all the chrome work on the Troopy painted in satin black.

Well I only got through #5 and half of #6. I am spent so that is it for today. #6 is a bit complicated so taking more time.

I did get the rear crossmember ready to weld in as well.

Going to take at least half a day tomorrow if not a full day to do all these up welding wise and clean them all up too.

Cheers

So here is the issue to solve with #6, I have known I would have to deal with this for awhile now, that time is now!

By the way, it will be shaped more like this in order to make room for rear bumper mounts.

Obviously the frame rails have come up just short of what we need for the Troopys #6 mount. About a week ago a guy I know dropped off this mint 80 chassis for me. No title but free and I am using it to hack up as I want-need. We certainly have had some good luck the last two weeks on this build.

Thinking about how I want to deal with it for awhile and I have decided I am just going to cut what I need out of this frame to extend how much I need. ;)

Cheers

#11 tacked in!

I will probably trim the rear most piece where you see the black line.

I went with the smaller diameter mount here and reusing an old puck.

I will also be putting in a small plate here where you see my hand to cap the frame rail extension. Last bit will be cut off the extra c-channel from the extension. And of course this all needs welded up and ground back.

The body rust looks like it will be fun.

Now that is roughed in.....

Body on frame on the new LSJ155! :)

Body on frame on the PZJ70.

Not bad, not bad at all considering there is a major difference in where the body lands on the frame and the much larger arches in the frame at the axles on the 80.

Yes. That rear crossmember/bar is completely hashed. Luckily, we have a new one and it incorporates the rear-most body mount. So not a big deal really.

The underside of the body is surprisingly decent though. The hogged out body side of the body mounts will need fixed on a couple of them but that easy-ish. Front footwell floorpans will be replaced (have the metal already). Rockers are a little chunky, have metal for those too. Behind the rear wheel sheetmetal is toast, ordered new metal for that as well. Only thing we need is windshield frame bits and we have a source for that as well. The Troopy on the whole isn't great but it's FAR from terrible and easily fixable, and it will be. And when it is, as far as I'm concerned, it'll be the best damn Troopy in the US. Possibly the world.

Finding LHD, clean, not overpriced Troopy isn't an easy task AT ALL. So, as the saying goes, "You gotta piss with the cock you got"

We now have a Troopy with an 80-series chassis capable of sitting on its own weight on the chassis.

That is what I call a big move.

Cheers

Besides the Maltec, I don't know of another one stateside.
And, in my honest opinion, body mount design is worlds apart ;)

Let me finish them up pretty wise before you talk them up to much!

I will just put this out there so we can move forward.

Tony got the Troopy at cost + a finders-importers fee. I handled it from A to Z and he got 80 or so pics + video and knew what I knew about the truck before purchasing.

It’s rustier than we would have liked, low compression was a bummer. Time to move or, we got a Troopy sitting on an 80-chassis with motor mounts for an awesome v8 so it’s well on it’s way now.

There is a lot of rust, that’s coming up relatively soon. We have a lot of new panels, we will get more. Roof is getting chopped for a pop-too so we can forget about that, gutter rails so far look surprisingly good. Tony has gone to paint top and bottom which I personally like a lot more than his previous plan.

It will get fixed and sealed up like a mofo, you all get to watch and criticize! :hillbilly:

Today was day 15 working on this project and one day off in nearly four weeks for me. Going to go at it hard tomorrow and see if I can have the BMs all welded, ground and cleaned up, 100% done.

Cheers

@TonyP, bummer about your back... I'm assuming that's what had you at the emergency room. Get well soon man... as soon as you can with something like that.

@SNLC, very cool fab work. Those body mounts look slick.

The pace on this build is very cool.

Again, we need a webcam... =)

Thanks. Yup, that's why I was there. I'm back in Utah now, got a MRI scheduled for today. Also demanded a referral to see Dr. Lawerence at the U of U. Suppose to be the top Ortho guy in Utah, went to Yale, Medical Honor Society, specializes in biomechanics and stem cell treatments, and most importantly, a fellow New Englander. Fingers crossed. Beyond sick of this injury back bull****.

Truth. I’m in back issues throes right now as well. I’ve been horizontal for two days straight.

I’ve also been researching the stem cell treatment route. As well as other more invasive treatments.

This getting old sh!t is getting old.

Good luck dude.

If you have time in SLC and you are well enough you should stop by the museum.
