Ok...So I started to panic...Well not really but my plan (way down the road) was to supercharge my LX. Mostly due to where I live, the need for towing power, and 'cuz Romer has a supercharger
Anyway, I shot off numerous emails to folks that sell these with only one confirmation that they are discontinued? Couple places (Man-a-fre for one) said they hadn't heard that the supercharger had been discontinued but that it would cheaper to order the item locally.
So, I shot off a request to my local Toyota dealer inquiring about purchasing a kit and they came back with a price of $3880 + tax, none in stock, 3-4 days to get one, and it must be prepaid. So I replied that the reason I was interested in finding one "in stock" is that it was reported that the item was discontinued...
Here is the parts guy's response:
I'm glad you mentioned that, I called TRD to find out for sure, and they told me they are still avail, but are on backorder with no ETA. The ones that you have probably heard that are discontinued are for the 1998 to current LX450's (I assume he meant LX470s here) and Landcruisers, Toyota has never been able to fix a problem with the 4.7L V-8 superchargers at all, so they have been disctned for quite a while. They gave me a phone number to check periodicaly the availability, if you want it-1.800-688-5912.
So...Is it possible that the 4.5L TRD Supercharger is not in fact discontinued after all?
CDan, what say you??
