I install red head steering gears in my 4x4 vans and recently noted they are now rebuilding boxes for the 80. Ordered one today for the 55. The gearbox is the only part of the steering that hasn’t been replaced with new parts. The steering now is actually decent but I know it could be better.

The price is steep, but worth it. I was skeptical until I started using them. The steering gear can can be compared to shocks, you don’t realize how worn they are until you replace with new ones.

Made a huge difference on the vans. I’m hoping for the same outcome here.

Deo, I know we talked some about the 105 sector shaft, do you think they would install that at time of rebuild?

I wish they would do a rebuild on an early FJ60 box. Mine is woe slap out!

Can’t speak for them. I can say they have a knowledgeable person the swings the phone. Give them a call.

I didn’t feel like my rig needed the 105 upgrade.

We talked about the "need or want " thing, for me it's just a want thing. I don't have any backround on that 80 series box I got from you, so in my mind it could of been abused by the last guy, at least that's what I'm telling the Mrs. :)

🥺. Good! Anymore in future??

Working on this trio now....

When I sleep in the back of the 55, it’s such a slow process to move each factory 80 electric seat all the way forward to allow more room in the rear of the rig. Not to mention there is always the concern they might not move back if one of the gears strips in the seat motors ( common 80 problem) which would make driving home impossible without tearing the seat apart. With all this in mind I’ve decided to reinstall my old manual seats from my last 80 in the 55. I scooped up a nos manual seat cushion to give my ass that new car seat feeling. Replacement L seat leather is on the way to give it that new car smell.
