Well I finally made the switch. I sold my 1994 Defender 90 and purchased a 1997 LX450. Flew to Colorado and drove 860 flawless miles home. The LX was much less expensive, so the remaining funds will be used for PM and to build the truck into what I want. Here are a few pictures of the way I picked it up. Truck has 170K on it, and has been well cared for. It has the OME 3/2 level stance springs and OME shocks from man a fre. Also has the ARB front bumper, and 295 BFG A/T tires.

I will be baselining the truck over the next couple of weeks. The head gasket has been done, and most of the hoses are relatively new. Has new plugs, wires and distributer cap. It needs to have all the fluids changed, the front axle rebuilt, and new belts. The truck runs and drives great, but I don't want to have any worries going down the road.

As for building the truck I will be doing the following:
-9500 pound winch with synthetic line
-35" KM2s
-custom rear bumper with tire carrier and gas can rack
-custom sliders with tube steps
-mega mat all the interior
-new leather
-heated seats
-slee 4" springs (and other goodies)
-12 travel fox shocks
-dual battery system
-rear storage drawers
-fridge
-rigid led lights
-under carriage protection
-double cardan drive shafts
-4.88 ring and pinion
-cb radio (tuned)
-cdl switch and 7 pin mod

I'm sure that there will be more, but this will be a good start. I have already taken off the factory running boards, and have the winch sitting waiting to go in the ARB. The new leather and seat heaters are on the way as well as the mega mat. I will update the thread with pics and info as I make progress. It will be a few days until I get to work on it.

mega mat is a fatmat product that is very similar to dynamat. it is a sound deadening material.

Well, things have been pretty busy, and I haven't had much time to work on the LX. I did get a set of 35" BFG KM2s put on the truck, and I installed the winch. I also went through the whole truck with "1911" (forum member), and have a good idea of the PM work that needs to be done. We advanced the timing to 7 degrees BTDC, greased the drive shafts, and tightened the belts. The truck is running great. All the fluids look and smell new, but I will be flushing the transmission, transfer case, and rebuilding the front and rear axles anyway. The coolant is good Toyota Red. I was very excited to dig into the truck, and find it in better condition than what I was expecting. I am working on the interior of the truck next. Doing all the sound deadening and new leather with seat heaters.

Here are a couple pics. I know they are bad, it is raining. I'll get a lot more pictures as I go.

I'm up around Graham, TX. It is near PK lake. I can make it to Austin pretty quick though. Let me know if you are having a weekend trip and I will try to make it. I am looking for people to travel, explore and wheel with, so keep me in mind.

You should hook up with the LSLC DFW club: TX- Lone Star Land Cruisers We have an event next month.

I got a little work done this week. I did all the megamat. I took out the interior, and lined the floor, fender wells, inside and outside of doors, and everything else I could find to stick it to. This is a very tedious process. I have reinstalled the carpet, door panels and other parts, but not the seats. My new leather and seat heaters should be here any day now, so I am just leaving the seats out until I get that finished.

I also got started de-flaring and getting ready for bed liner. I love the way it looks without all that plastic on it. What should I do to fill all the holes? I have seen some people have used tape, but I was wondering if anyone had spot welded the holes for a permanent fix? Any problem with just taping them? What about using bondo?

You can't tape the holes if you are having it sprayed. The pressure of the spray will dimple the tape and show through the liner. If you are rolling you can use the tape.

As for filling the holes the best way would be welding all the holes, but lots of guys have taped from behind and used a tiny bit of body filler.

I used self adhesive fiberglass mesh tape (drywall section at Home Depot) on the back sides of the holes where I had access. Some spots I had no choice but to put the tape on the outside. Then I used bondo. The bedliner hides a multitude of sins.

Check out my Liner thread for ideas.

BTW, the rig is coming along nicely.
