Tap and Die set

So I need/want a GOOD tap and die set. I've been trying to read online, but finding nothing really useful.

I'd like to find some professional grade stuff if I can, as I am in schooling now to do machining, so I'm trying hard to buy good stuff now so I don't have to replace it later.

Brands I should be looking for? I am just looking for a good starting set that I can buy more for down the road as I need different sizes... but I do want GOOD.

I buy taps occasionally to keep our sets full at the shop. Last time I bought some Dormer taps from McMaster, vanadium steel, good up to Rockwell C40, only a few bucks more than their basic high-speed taps. I'm expecting these to hold up well. If I needed a set, I'd check the price on a set of these.

If you're going to work for someone as a machinist, they should have these consumable items supplied by the shop, leave yours at home for home use.

I have a old ( good times ) Craftman set and some starrett tap wrenches ( are the best )

I'm light on dies but have taps out the wazoo. I bought a cabinet a few years ago that was supposed to just have a few scraps in it but instead was filled with stuff. Think I have like 10-15 of almost every size and style. If you want, I could put a package together. It's all top stuff.

I bought a nice set of standard and metric taps and dies 5 or 6 years ago. Made in USA by Irwin. Very happy with it. Used it a lot on my resto.

Look up travers. It's a tool supply house. Pretty much anything they sell is quality. Plus they have everything you could possibly need.

Aren't Travers, MSC and Enco all the same company now?

I don't know. Travers still sends me catalogs under their name. I do know the main distribution facility is still right down the road from me.
