So I really need a place to mount a spare tire and I don't want it in, under, or on top of my Cruiser. I also don't want to spend a fortune on a rear bumper just so I can have a swing-out tire carrier. That being said, does anyone know of a swing-out tire carrier for a stock rear bumper? Ideally, I'd like a swing-out tire carrier that I could eventually mount on a custom rear bumper when I have the extra money to buy a nice rear bumper.

Very nice product with a strong reputation

Hitchgate™ Solo - WilcoOffroad.com

Nice option. I can't tell from my phone, but would that still allow you to tow something when using that? Not sure if it would even be safe trying that.

Edit: Oh, actually you cantos with these on. I am going to look into this.....been waiting on the other options for a bit.

Anyone using one of these?

It appears you need to use your tow receiver to mount this? I was hoping for a tire carrier that bolts to the 4 bolt holes in the center of the bumper/cross-member.

I happily keep my 35" spare inside but I ready to pull the trigger on the Wilco to carry our bike rack and still have rear access. A little pricey to support a bike rack but IMO better than a full time swing out on my 4x4 labs bumper.

There are others that made a similar product but the Wilco looks to be the best build quality and long lasting gets my vote.

@NLXTACY ala wits end has one in the works. @SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr makes a u-weld it kit, may offer complete as well. Also several diy versions posted here in archives.

Wits' End 80 Series OEM Bumper Mounted Rear Tire Carrier (formerly AJIK)

80 Series Factory Bumper Swing Out DIY Kits

I wish I could ship ready to go swing outs, but I don't currently have a preassembled swing out as an option due to time and a couple other factors, but if local and I can perform the install. I currently have a batch underway. More info here for those interested.

80 Series Factory Bumper Swing Out DIY Kits

I researched (years ago) the ability to order and add-on an external OEM Toyota swing out tire carrier. all the parts were available (at the time talked to a Toyota dealer in South Africa). However was silly money. Be easier to add on 3rd party rear bumper with swingout or go with some of the DIY (some self welders designs)

There aren't many great options for oem bumper tire carrier. I've only found two that seem like a great product for my application. I'm waiting on NLXTACY to build his (the build thread has gone cold, so I'm not sure if or when those will be done) and may choose his depending on the price. Apparently, the NLXTACY's swing-out is based on the old AJIK design which was around $800. I feel $800 is pretty steep, I'm not saying his product doesn't justify $800 but for $3-500 more you can find an entire bumper with tire carrier. I'm also interested in Summit Jr's tire carrier but it is a DIY kit and I'm not confident enough in my welding skills to pull it off. @LandCruiserPhil mentioned the Wilco. It's affordable but having to use the hitch receiver to mount it is a deal breaker for me. I may be wrong but I feel it would stick out too far and would impede off-road travel. Maybe @RDC76 has a tire carrier for an oem bumper or a built bumper with swing-out tire carrier? He makes some amazing stuff and he's close to me.

I've got a bolt on carrier coming out soon. All the bits and pieces are at the shop and the fixtures are being produced as I type this.

basis compliment

holds a 35" tire on a stock rim, others also
custom 4x4labs spindle, sleeved for strength and serviceability
5' hi-lift jack
cb antenna
lighted license plate
works with stock tow bar

Here is a couple of pics of the prototype used for determining placement and fit.

@landtank,
You just lapped the field. Yours is the one I'm now interested in. ETA?
Thanks

waiting on my guy to jig it up and send me the beta. He's been busy lately back filling my other orders so I can't complain.

a couple of features that I think are nice:

There is a stop on the spindle in case the pop pin misses it's hole in oreder to eliminate the possibility of the swing out coming around and bumping the vehicle.

The jack has a tilt action on the base plate to hold the jack in place freeing both hands to affix it to the carrier.

the jack can be secured in place with a:
"security lug bolt" allowing you to use the stock lug wrench and key to remove it
a push pin to allow quick and easy access should you be on a trail run and security isn't needed
and you can use an additional pad lock

Because our rims use a shank style lug nut, I placed 2 dowel pins on the backing plate to allow you to rest the rim on those dowels which holds the rim centered on the wheel studs freeing both hands to install the lug nuts.

and it's a short arm design. The lower swing out arm is only as long as necessary to help with opening clearances behind the truck. Such as parallel parking where the tire might clear the hood of a car behind the truck but not a longer arm and the cars bumper or at the bottom of a hill or close to a rock or stump offroading.

Specific to @LandCruiserPhil for bike rack suggestion...

I have a first generation Slee swing out (long arm) with a 315/75R16 tire on it. I have also cut a hole through the bumper and welded in a cross beam for a through-the-bumper hitch. The extension puts the rack far enough back to clear the tire. This bike rack accordians straight back and can swing to either side.

It has worked great for me. YMMV

Thanks

Are you planning on preassembled or as a kit?

@landtank How soon is soon? I'm very interested in your tire carrier. I'm only an hour or so away and I 'd prefer to do cash in hand.

Any idea on approximate price?

not yet, but this won't be an entry level carrier. SS pop pin, SS toggle with SS hardware. I'll be using SS Nord-Lock washers on the bolts. These are vibration proof lock washers, $2.00 ea.

I did however reduce costs where ever I could which included the overall size and weight of the carrier to keep shipping costs down.
