Factory bumper tire swing out build, double shear hinge

I made this tire swing out to keep the factory bumper and covers. I took a bit of a different path using a double shear hinge after getting spooked about the spindle breaking stories. 1/4" plate is bolted to the frame all the tubing is 3/16" except for the diagonals which are 1/8" . The hitch is all 1/4" plate except for where the latch attaches which is 1/8" and 3/16". The hitch took a few hits and drags (sounded like a distraught dinosaur) during the trip to Canyonlands last week but was undamaged, so that was a relief. Where the spring lock pin goes in is tapered to be self locking upon opening.

The rear view is off a bit, it does not stick out past the side of the vehicle.

If you don't mind, how much time do you have in the design?

Roughly, from memory.

Steel about $45 (some 1/8" I had laying around, not included)
Weld on lock pin $20
Latch $45
Lug nuts and studs (autozone) $10
Double shear hinge kit $45
polpro/plastic pads - free
Paint $15

So budget planning about $200

Time in the design, way too much. Started looking at the build threads here then adapted for the double shear hinge. When I had the concept I started building, it was a design as I built project. Head scratching along the way type of project.
 
Nice job! I've been looking for this option myself - can't shell out the $$ for a full bumper anytime soon and don't like the spare in the cabin. Any thoughts on build to sell?
 
There no such thing as too many pictures, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more of different angles. Was there a particular build thread you thought was better than others? You obviously have good fab skills, so why not do the entire bumper?

Thanks, but you didn't see the mistakes, haha

I didn't do the the whole bumper mainly to save weight. I do drag the plastic bumper at times but it is holding up so far.

Mounted on the frame from the side and below with 1/4" plate. There is a 3/16" backing plate inside the frame box on the side acting as a big washer. I did not want to weld to the frame.
 
On the Canyonlands trip I think it would have been more challenging having the tire underneath in a couple of places, snow up high and rocks in the last picture.

Another inch of tire height and I would have made it, it was that close ;)
I had to winch off.
