Interesting, it may be because the working fluid is diesel instead of gasoline. Dunno.

About 30 years ago I set up the fuel system on my boss' wife's ski boat hauling big block Suburban (would pass anything but a fuel station!) with the then ubiquitous Holley "Blue" pump and regulator. The truck was having vapor lock issues, so I 'T'd the supply line at the regulator inlet and put an -6AN 10 psi check valve on the branch. Excess was returned to the fuel tank and that kept the fuel moving in the line well enough that it didn't boil.
 
This is the first diesel conversion I've done that required a pickup pump. I'll find out how she does eventually. It does run now but I've only gotten maybe 30% of the project completed as of now

Thank you. I think the boots are from a t100. The adapter plate is made with 22 gauge sheet and a thin rubber gasket cut to size. I used pop rivets to put down the teal adapter and hand nuts to bolt down the boot holder.

I bought the hand nut kit and tool to install the little ladies ladder on her rover. I should have purchased one years ago.
 
For anyone wondering the little black box dangling is my vss sensor brain box. My vss sensor runs off of my drive shaft flange nuts. This little black box adapts the signal to feed my ecu for the cruise control and the speedometer on the dash.

It is adjustable so I can dial it in for my 4 bolt signal as well as gear/tire combo. Will tuck it in once it's dialed in. The silver box on the far right lower corner under the glove box is the tdi ecu.

If any of you are considering a tdi swap I cannot give fast forward automotive enough props for helps along the way, the after the sale customer service aka my dumb questions had been great.

When you get the custom harness made, install the engine, plan where you want the ecu to mount and then measure the routing to the sensors. I had a one size fits all harness made so I had to settle for putting things where they fit. Under the radio would have been a better spot for the ecu. Due to cost of getting another harness made I settled. The wires come off the ecu harness plug at a 90, not quite enough room to mount it where the 22re ecu sat.
 
Crap...where do I put the intercooler? Do I trailblaze and mount it in the space of the brush bar...or go full blown import and cut out the grill to fit it?

All joking aside I see where you're going here and I don't dislike the idea.

Also I'd trade my tr4 for that ford
 
Go Sube WRX with it, put it next to the engine at hood level with a scoop and ducting as needed.

You must not have seen the Roadkill episode of that thing...you should keep the tr4. That one was a parts truck to start out with and def became one later.
 
I've never seen any roadkill episode or heard of it. Topgear was the only car show I really enjoyed. The UK version.
 
Roadkill isn't for those who like bling or nice things. But they do some fun things just to enjoy vehicles, often out of junkyards. That ford is cool but it was overly rusted and neglected. I am sure you could make a very cool build from one. VW engine and tranny, 4 runner frame and suspension....and the Ford body. Likely be the a very nice daily and have good character. Especially with the intercooler on the outside!

If you aren't running a/c, there should be enough room behind the grille if you pull that center support.

I'll look closer into a hood scop and top mount intercooler. If I can fit it on the drivers side of the hood it could work. I can't center the intercooler because it would block the oil fill. Due to clearance issues of block height the only place I could fit the intercooler over the motor is toward the fire wall. I don't mind removing the intercooler for oil changes. On a daily driver I don't want to block the oil dipstick or oil fill. On a trail toy this would be no issue.

I do have some open space between the Power steering reservoir and master cylinder.
 
I cannot bring myself to cut a hole in the hood...but I also need an intercooler . I was looking at skid plates and they run north or 200 plus shipping. I have this old bed frame and some 1/4 or so inch diamond plate aluminum. I've made my own skid plate and will mount an aluminum MR2 intercooler behind it. I'll still need to drill holes for air to pass, will do that after the IC has arrive.

A 90% on road truck won't need assistant with keeping the iat down. If I ever find myself doing more trail riding I have plenty of room to mount small a 12 pulling fan. My vcds reads real time intake temps at the intake so I can make adjustments as necessary once she hits the road...eventually.

I also got a nice 1 hr derailed rabbit trial task finished today, she has a working horn now. Not only was the horn dead but I had to mod a riv-nut to fit over the steering column push rod to make contact with the rotaty spring.
