-I've ridden in your fj over the road Mike. I can attest to it being a total transformer. By that I mean: I watched it be a boss on the trails, rock crawling, military vehicle type capability, then just moments later I'm riding in it over the road and highway speeds feeling like a daily commuter.

-All you "mud" guys blow my mind with these build threads. But the production value of your videos is next level. I mean, I don't understand most of the words you are using due to my subject matter ignorance, but it's still somehow a great watch.

-The store looks cool. Also me: You can build an entire vehicle from scratch! leave some small stuff for the reguler guys who want to create/make also.

I’m back in the garage! I am installing DEI under hood heat/sound deadening material today, and I also got some heat shield for my firewall and under the Cruiser. Easy weekend.

Have fun with the firewall. I know I did. Lots of cut hands. Made a little bit of difference, then we took the transmission tunnel off and dynamated it, as well as put some fiberglass out of a muffler I cut up to make my air filter under all the shifter lever rubbers. Got to drive it this morning and I think it’s 8-10 db less, very happy with it.
Not saying I wouldn’t spray the Lizardskin sound and heat again, especially on an Aqualu tub, but I think the dynamat is doing the work.

Does that under the hood sound proofing really make a difference with engine noise in the cab?

I don’t ever need to do that again. That was terrible.

I put it on to reduce heat. It sounds quieter when I close the hood but my muffler is way too loud to tell if the noise under the hood is any quieter.

According to DEI, it is supposed to reduce the heat by preventing sun rays from warming the engine compartment.

Their website doesn’t say that it reduces heat transfer through the hood from above. It seems to suggest otherwise. It will be an experiment.

I’ve had this conversation in a few threads wondering the same thing. I think I’ll let my engine heat out for now through the wind blowing across the thin metal hood and will learn from others.
