The dangers of camping in Morocco !!!

Finale full day in Morocco, my only target of the day is to reach Nador with a nice seaside drive.

I finish the day at one of the rare camping on the seaside and the only one near Nador.

It is simply a well placed farmer that built a public bathroom/toilets and allow travelers to camp on his land.

By the end of the day arrived in the same campsite a group of crazy bikers (Germans & Swiss), a group of Dutch bikers, and a French family in a HDJ80. Everyone takes the same boat the next day.

Last day on the continent!

Took a little detour through the mountain to enjoy some last nice views.

After a last nice lunch in a fancy restaurant with view, it's already time to head for the port... They ask to be there 5h before!
Here there is no waiting for embarking everyone at the same time... It's a continuous process that will last 6h.

I get the jackpot with the extensive search from Moroccan police (in Tanger they would scan all the vehicles outgoing but they don't have the scanners available in Nador). Some guy will spend 15 minutes around and under the truck banging on every single piece of metal to listen to the sound it makes... some sound empty... some full 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
After all that time he finally ask me where the damn is the fuel tank, he is very surprised when I point inside 😅 He bangs one last time on the tank cover and let me go...

With all of that he did not even found my 2 jerrycans that are still full and normally not allowed on the boat.

It fills in quite quickly, lot of big van trucks coming back to Europe.

The boat isn't even close to leave that I already find the Germans and Swiss bikers at the bar. I'm already drinking a beer with them and I'm starting to think that the 40h of the crossing may ends up being fun =D

The ship is full full full!
Had not calculated that but it's the end of the public Holydays in France and everyone is coming back.

Agitated night or agitated sea?

The crossing was not as nice as expected... the water was quite agitated with a big storm over Europe.
Nothing crazy on the boat but always this sensation of the ground moving so you are not feeling very nice... no other beer were consumed during this crossing.
Also with the boat full, the common spaces were all crowded at all time by people that didn't have a cabin, it's not helping to meet people on the boat.

Anyway the boat arrived without issue and on time, I was a little worried for the FJ40 that it didn't move (particularly that I was parked on a ramp).
And I'm also always worried if it will start easily after 40h on the sea with humid air... They ask you to not start your engine too early to not intoxicate everyone but if you block your lane when it's your time people will quickly be mad 😅

Home sweet home !

Not exactly the same weather 😅😅

Useless objects for this trip, that I carried along!
FJ40 doesn't need any help to drive on sand ! (and is very fuel efficient 😇 🤔)

The tool I used during this trip!
While I was carrying my full Toyota metal toolbox and a wolfpack full of spareparts the only things I needed were the kit screwdriver to tighten the door strikers (they always untight themselves on those <1974 doors), and a kit sparkplug wrench and some sand paper to clean the sparkplugs after the Atlas ups and downs.

Breakage?!
This is the only one 😢 Probably one of the jerrycan that jumped over the holder in a big bump.

If anyone has this part for sale BTW... I'm interested. Don't think I can get it resoldered as it acts as a spring :/

Thank you for sharing your fascinating Moroccan tour with the community flx !
A+
Demetrios

Otherwise for the news, I just bought a new Toyota that I plan to fully convert as a camper, and uses for longer trip or when I want a little bit more comfort ;)
(the FJ40 will still be used for fun trips!)

Need to still wait a little bit before having it in my hands but I give you a little clue, it's red, has blue lights, and even still has a giant water pistol in the back 😁
Can the Toyota's experts figure the model? 😛

Not a model commonly seen on ih8mud, I'll have to figure out in which section to create the build topic.

Amazing write up and a very inspiring trip. Thank you for sharing.

When you start your build thread for the (HighAce?) fire truck, please let us know here.

Thank you again.

Haha you are good!
The clue didn't held for long 😅

Yes it's a HiAce RZH119L, part time 4x4 with low range, 4.88 diff with rear LSD, petrol 2RZ-e 😃

For comparison, this thing is 20cm shorter than a Troopy but has 1 extra meter of payload length to build a living area.

It spent all its life in a dry and heated fire station (except for the last 1 year), was serviced at a Toyota dealer once a year and wasn't driven much =D

Wow, that is cool.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Oh man, she's just perfect for the job.
Congrats wholeheartedly!

PS. What about the rims/wheels, 15'' or 16''?
If I can see well they are not split rims/jantes cerclées...
