Hello,
I am replacing the steering rack in my 2000 LC. I have a few questions that i hope you guys can answer. So I am getting new bushings and all that. I just need to know if i should get new spacers, bolts (maybe called studs) and banjo bolts. I plan on doing this myself before I replace the suspension so it will be easier to access. Any tips on how to replace the steering rack is greatly appreciated too. Thank you

Hi,
This is the big thread which should contain all tips and tricks if you haven’t gone through it.
It helped me to print out some steps and diagrams while I replaced mine. Shouldn’t be too hard as long as you take your time.
Good luck!

Thank you man I’ll look through that.

A 17mm crawfoot wrench will come in handy in creating that leverage when you break loose the banjo fittings on the old steering rack. Also, I would suggest replacing all flexible power steering related hoses as they are likely brittle at this point. Check your hard lines as well for rust and corrosion.

I am thinking about replacing the lines but it’s about $500 for all. It’s expensive right now.

Hello,
I am planning on replacing my steering rack on my 2000 LC. There is a leak and I just want to fix it while I still have the time. I bought a remanufacted rack from Toyota. It was $588 VS. the new one being $1065. I’ve read some things that the remanufacted ones aren’t good. Should this be something I should worry about? Any advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I replaced the rack on my 1998 Landcruiser, and I went with the 44250-60050, which i believe is the non-refurbished one
So far its been good. It is not a fun job and I don't ever want to have to do it again, so the extra cost is worth it to me

I’ll look into that. They both come with a one year warranty, which isn’t long for either. I’ve also heard it’s not a very fun job. I think I’m going to try and not remove the oil filter housing pan and just jack the engine.

I removed just the oil filter, and jacked the engine, and it wasn't a terrible job. It would have been easier if the rack input spline hadn't been rusted on, but I separated the input shaft further up, and slid the whole thing out with the 18" input shaft on it.

I went with this replacement low/high pressure line for my 1999 LX470. No complaints feels well made.

How long did it take?
