Hey Guys. Long time lurker, new poster here from north Metro Atlanta! I am a long time Toyota guy and have owned Tacomas, 4Runners an FJ and currently my other vehicle is an 08 GX470. I was fortunate enough to land my dream car, a 1998 JDM 100 Series LC. My neighbor directly across the street is an importer and I get to see all the stuff he imports before it goes out to sell, so when my LC showed up in stunning condition with only 111k miles, I had to have it! I have had it 3 months now and have driven it 4,000 flawless miles! Other than a slight seep from the steering rack that my mechanic said to keep an eye on, it is bone dry underneath.

My question is this...I have been thinking since it is RHD, I'd have to get a RHD specific steering rack, right? Asking because I had a random thought of....well, can a regular rack be used and just flipped around to accommodate RHD? What does the group here say? Is that logic correct or am I off base?

You must get a RHD steering rack. Try partsouq.com. Enter the VIN and search the parts diagram. They usually show an actual image so make sure it is identical to yours. Check the sides of the fluid hose connections and the steering wheel shaft locations.

Yes, you need a RHD specific rack. They are available new OEM still, we have sourced a few for local some HDJ101 customers and can get you one if you want

yup, specific, no flippo. Get it from Partsouq, it'll be $1k. Get the rebuild kit while you are buying parts, and have your current one rebuilt.

Get the part number from Partsouq and then compare to what Impex will charge. Sometimes it is noticeably cheaper with Impex but you will have likely longer to wait.
You can also check BeForward for used parts. I just ordered and received a used steering rack for my JDM Nissan fairlady/ 350z and it took about a week and half from order to delivery.
Hopefully the quality is good after I install it.

Thanks so much for the input guys. It doesnt need the rack now, but I may eventually have to replace it and this was a question I wanted to understand an answer to better.

Try adding AT 205 into the P/S fluid. Also try using Mobil-1 fluid 100%
