And here is why I’m eventually moving up to 16’s or 17’s. The other day 5 of us ran a trail in Panamint Springs. Was not an event, just the 5 of us, but when they do have an event, this trail requirement are one locker & 35 in tires. I am running 33’s & when aired down to the mid teens I really have to watch my ground clearance.
Here are some before & after pics of my 15 in wheels after this trail. 33x15 BFG Muds are actually barely 32 inches. Once I get some 16 or 17 in wheels I can get some BFG Muds with a true 34 in size. With the lift I now have I don’t believe I can run 35’s.
Here are a couple of pics of my wheels after the beating they took and then after I hammered them back into usable shape. After the hammer repair, the wheel is not pretty…but the inside bead is useable. For now I grabbed a spare wheel I had in the garage.
After the trail.

Called Summit and US Wheel today to order and follow @J Mack 's lead on these alternate size steelies with the hub caps. Found out US wheel won't drill the 16" 69 series steelies to 6 x 5.5 lug pattern. Was planning on doing 255 85s, but thats now out. So it's either 15" or 17" apparently. I'm thinking 17s on a 40 will look like too little sidewall on a 33" tire, but @wngrog 's 80 with 285 75 R17s looked pretty nice! Sidewall height is almost identical. Also wanted to share, discount tire offered to order the custom US wheels for me and quoted $115 each for 15" x 6.5".I’ve been posting this in my build thread but thought I would also post here if it will help someone else looking for wheel options.
I’ve been wanting to go to steel wheels and tall skinny tires since I built my pig but unfortunately something else kept getting in the way and I’ve had to wait until recently to make the switch.
I had originally planned to go to a 16” wheel but all of the 35”X10” tires I was finding where 17” and 17” wheel options are limited to just a few. Not sure how any of this was going to look I pick up a set of US wheel Rat Rod in 17”X7” with a 3.5” back space and planned to add some type of clip for the Toyota hubcaps once I got the wheels here. After ordering several types of clips and none of them working out I just chucked up my wheels in my rotary table on my mill and drilled them so I could attach the caps with screws. The screws are less than ideal but it was quick and easy got me on the road.

Those look awesome. Might look funny with fender flares. The 17” FJcruiser wheels with 285/75-17s are a great fit. No spacers. Plus mine has 2” less lift than yours.
