Trying to avoid the icon rubber band look going with 17s on a 40, but, as others have mentioned, I feel like tire availability/options is much better on 17s v

Called Summit and US Wheel today to order and follow @J Mack 's lead on these alternate size steelies with the hub caps. Found out US wheel won't drill the 16" 69 series steelies to 6 x 5.5 lug pattern. Was planning on doing 255 85s, but thats now out. So it's either 15" or 17" apparently. I'm thinking 17s on a 40 will look like too little sidewall on a 33" tire, but @wngrog 's 80 with 285 75 R17s looked pretty nice! Sidewall height is almost identical. Also wanted to share, discount tire offered to order the custom US wheels for me and quoted $115 each for 15" x 6.5".

Finally got my US Wheels powder coated and mounted the clips based on the @J Mack method with the chain link to convert them to work with the toyota hub caps. Worked really well, holds the hub caps tight and was an affordable-ish option overall. Tires are 285 70 R17, wheels are 17 x 7 with 3.25" backspacing

Okay so I just read 16 pages, really rad thread.

I would like to get a set of 16" wheels with this look, I don't need hubcaps but would like to avoid needing to bore out the center and avoid spacers. Is that possible or am I going to need wheel spacers?

Cruiser is a 72 FJ55. I have a set of nice 33" BFG KO2s in the shed.

Look for used FJ Cruiser wheels or take off steel wheels. I've purchased quite a few sets over the years.

I agree, but FJC wheels are 17".

I have a set of 6 lug chevy 16” wheels that Proly would need to get widened. Has the clips for the hubcap if they fit

You will probably have to open up the centers on the 6 lug Chevy wheels to fit the fj55 axles.

I don’t know the wheel offset you need for an FJ-55, you may need to run spacers.

Facing right (PS showing): 33x12.50R15 Kenda Krawlers on 15x8 widened Toyota wheels

Facing left (DS showing): 255/85R16 KM3s (roughly a 33x10.0R16 before the BFG tax) on City Racer 16” wheels

1978 FJ55, standard Cruiser Outfitters lift.

No spacers.
