Just a note to say Hi!

Yesterday, I bought the 78 FJ40 from Nick and drove it 110 miles home without incident. It is my 6th 4X4, but my first Landcruiser. To answer the question, I paid a little more than I wanted to but gave him a little less than he asked. No need to post any pics, since it looks exactly like it looked in the pictures he posted when it was for sale last month.

It was refreshing to discover that everything Nick told me about the vehicle appears to be accurate. He's a good guy! It has reasonable oil pressure, doesn't overheat, and everything works. 14.6mpg down the freeway at 55 - 60mph. I expect 9 - 10 in town.

Upon arriving home, my 16 year old daughter examined it, wrinkled her nose, and exclaimed "Dad, if you paid more than 50 bucks for this, you got screwed." I think she likes it, although the "baby-poop-brown"color may have put her off a bit.

Next steps are to fix some little window and mirror issues, put in a 4" lift, new tires, sand and primer a little rust, and then get out and use it in the desert. I haven't finished reading the FAQ's, so I won't start asking questions yet.

I'm looking forward to meeting some other owners in the San Diego area. This feels like the beginning of another obsession!

That is very nice. It must run good if you drove it 110 miles.

Never pass up a chance to post pics of your truck.

"Living in the past" posted the pictures of my (new-to-me) rig. Next step is to learn to post pictures and read the rest of the FAQ's.

Thanks again for the replies, warm welcome, and fine birds.

truck looks great - enjoy

Good luck with the cruiser! I dont think you did badly at all at even $6,800.

There are lots of cruiserheads in San Diego! Dont forget to check in here, our informal club. No meetings or whatnot, just a place to keep up with local cruiser folks. We are going to try to knock out a pizza/beer get together here shortly.

Nice 40, that's a keeper and a good find. don't be too hard on yourself over the price it's worth it trust me. the better they are to start with the less money you spend fixing it. It stinks starting with a turd that is rusted beyond belief. Most bargins aren't worth it in the long run. If you see the high dollar vehicles that have been "frame off" most were pretty nice to begin with. You've got a good one.

What are your plans with the new addiction??? Good luck and keep sending us the truck porn.
