Guys/gals,

Sorry for dumb question but I'm trying to get the tubes for the square driveline, according the a write up I should get "2 ½” x ¼” thick for the outer tube and 2” x ¼” thick for the inner tube"

The thing I don't get is ID of the outer tube would be 2 1/4" and OD of inner tube is 2", so it's not a tight fit because of a 1/4" gap between them??? Did I miss something or 1/4" between the outer tube and inner tube is desirable?

Here's the write-up:

Btw, seamless receiver outer tube is hard to find. Thanks in advance.

OR...You could just get a long travel kit at your local driveline place. Roughly $200, and I have 11 inches of travel. Seriously, it's pretty nice.

you have to think about both sides of the tube.. ;) each 1/4"

And There is still an 1/8" gap or so, it will rattle and drive you to getting a long spline shaft in due time, But its a great temporary Strong Solution for now!

yes there is going to be play in the driveline, if its a trail rig, no worries

I've ridden Rubicon and Fordyce many time in a rig with a square front drive line. I never noticed any noise on the trail or on the drive between Reno and the trail head. If you need to drive on an snowy at highway at 35MPH I would suggest a balanced drive line. If you just drive to and from the trail in 2WD, then crawl on the trail you'll be fine.

Edit: Tap the outer tube for a Zirk fitting on two sides and pump it full of grease.

Thanks guys, espcially Pin head who pointed it out...It's just a spare just in case...I bent a front driveline before at the Rubithon :frown:

A local farm/tractor supply store has all kinds of square and cloverleaf(for lack of a better description) steel for PTO shafts for ag equipment. They seem like they would be suited for a front shaft. Probably no farm stores in the Silicone Valley though..............:whoops:

Alright, I got my front square driveline last weekend thanked very much to Shipwreck who helped make it possible :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

Here are my spare front and rear drivelines: I'm ready...well, almost...
