New twist fasteners and footman loops are included with the soft top.

The twist fasteners they provide are attached with two rivets. If your tub has OEM holes for twist fasteners you're going to be happier buying OEM fasteners. The grommets can be bought at an upholstery supply house. The ones they provide were a little big in the vertical dimension vs OEM fasteners.

good to know! I have always wondered if mine had a soft top on it at some point or if Mr toyota drilled the holes for a soft top for all of the 40s already weather it got a hard top or soft. I have noticed holes on the windshield frame for the the channel and holes in the tub for them. The tub ones look threaded.

Mind posting photos of the threaded holes in your tub?
I will after work I am planning on working on my rear jump seat upholstery so I will be right there. they look factory for sure.

Rather than welding into place I think I will use a couple of these to allow for adjustability.

Thats a better Idea!

here are the photos. Pardon the zinc spray I did to keep it rusting while I have the top off. You can see in the second photo little holes drilled on top of the windshield for I think the little channel for a soft top. I could be completely wrong but I assume its for a soft top.

Thank you!! I really like it! spring green toyota 1028 paint. When I first got the cruiser I wanted to do a repaint but I have fallen in love with the patina and I am going to try and keep it as long as I can. I had to weld up a new rear sill and I tried to match the rear sill with the patina. eventually I think Ill have to do a fresh paint job just to keep it from turning back into the earth. I have some of the little b pillar seals. But I do need to get some of the other ones too.

I am excited about getting a soft top on it though. I think it will be so much nicer than the hard top for where i live. I do need to pull my hard top apart and start restoring it. It needs alot. New fibre glass, gaskets, and probibly a new rain gutter. I do have the cooler (in my opinion) scissor door. On the hard top.

Mine (Jan 73) has the same holes on the tub’s rail, but the locations are a little different. IE: the first hole is 3” from the B-pillar

No, the holes stop where the footman loops begin
Ill take some pictures this afternoon but I have holes in my rear doors too. I need to go ahead and buy a soft top too. I found a F ing rat in my 40 this morning after taking the cover off. Luckly i only ate up the little bag my cover goes in.

Ordered. Due to arrive 1st week of June.
Nice! let me know what you think! I wont be able to make the purchase till about june 1st or so. Gotta save some money on that teacher salary. I am going this rout though. seems like the best. I did email Dirt Road tops yesterday morning but I think from what I have read they are either out of business or not able to keep up with demand. I like the idea that they can make a white top though.

You'll have to call Julie if you want a response.
