At 16 with limited resources, don't do SOA. It will turn out to be far more expensive than you think. Just the highsteer alone will eat up 40% of your budget. A set of larger tires is $1000, so your budget is gone and you are not even started yet. Shocks-another $300-500.That's not to mention all the bits of hardware like perches, springs, U-bolts, brake lines etc to get this done. Who is going to do the welding, and is that free or does it also come out of your $1500 budget?
Stay spring under, learn to drive your truck and if you have to spend some money, get an OME suspension and a rear locker and stay spring under.
Tell us a bit about the truck, what mods does it already have?
Where do you want to go, that you can't go now?
Trust me, a spring over is a nice mod, but it's a huge change to your truck, and not something to take lightly. If done incorrectly, you will endanger yourself and everyone else on the road.
And you're 16 years old? And you're new to LandCruisers? And you managed to blew up a 2F on your first day wheeling? and so the first thing you want is SOA?
And you've got 1500 bucks? And you don't punctuate?
Ohboy....
First impression? "Step away from the 'Cruiser, you're not worthy!"
Back-up plan is to dispatch a drove of wild Pigs, representatives of the Knights of the Iron Pig to slap some sense into you and leave some doughnuts on the lawn...any idea what a SOA 40 would look like on 32s? Laughable! Jeeplike!
Oh, the horror.....
35s is minimum on a SOA. What's a set of 35s gonna cost you? You need power steering for 35s. How much is PS gonna cost you?
How about you first see if you can get it running and safe? Drive it for, say, 10 years, learn how to drive and live with a LandCruiser and then come back and ask about a SOA?
Another vote to not SOA and put the money in the bank. At 16 you are going to have a hard enough time keeping gas in the tank at $3 plus a gallon. If you want to make a cheap mod that will greatly increase the wheeling ability of the truck put a lunch box locker in the back.
Hey,
I'm 21 and understand the urge to make the rig big and baller - but SOA is expensive, both parts and labor intensive.
A good checklist for you might be
1. get the cruiser running good - a sweet lifted truck with no engine won't get you very far.
2. learn the truck and what it likes
3. P/S - it's amazing
4. locker - will take you further than any other lift - it's my next project
5. get a SUA lift and U-Bolt flip kit - and find some cheap used tires
okk well first of im young not stupid my last truck was a 1985 pickup did a complete swap the rear springs to the front and chevy springs in the back i've been out in the bush since i was 8 years old i can drive the only reason that engine blew was cause it sat for 10 years when i bought it i changed everything oil, oil filter, plugs plug wire, cap, rotar all the fluids not my fault engine went n e ways i know what it would look like with 32's im not stupid im getting a set of 35inch krawlers i said in my first paragraph 1500 is my budget for the lift i can weld, and cut and turn the axels myself all i wanted to know was a good list of parts what ppl have used that works and what they've used that hasnt
When I was 18 I did an SBC swap in my FJ60 and it was my daily driver. I cut a lot of corners and it came out driving fine. I say, do your research and go for it. You can always borrow your parent's cars to run back and forth to the parts store or to school. I will ask again, Where are you from?
im from victoria B.C. i know its gonna take sometime to do and im gonna make sure i do it right i have my bike licence and a bike so i stil have transportation i just wanna make sure i do it all at once and if anyone has any little things they've done thats help them please share thanxs again

Unless you've got the money set aside for unexpected expenses, then I would skip the SOA for now. There are multiple options for setting one up, and some are more expensive than others. But, as these guys have said, it will add up fast.
33x12.5's look okay (a little on the small side) on an SOA rig, but skinny 32's wouldn't. I have 33's on my stock spring SOA right now, and they look small. I'm not even done with mine yet. The truck's been a long term project.
