hey guys, could anyone measure or provide anecdotal information about the rear of the gx for me? Im curious how deep the rear hatch is when the third row is stowed up and the second row is folded forward. I am 6ft tall and would like to be able to sleep in the back of the vehicle during short excursions. This could impact whether i decide to purchase a gx or not. Thanks in advance.

You'll want a good pad. The floor is not flat. I was going to try that once and it was a no go. I took the left section of the middle seat out and slid the driver seat all the way forward to get the length. A good pad may make up for it but just a regular sleeping pad didn't make up for the uneven floor.

I slept in mine diagonally with my feet up against the driver side 2nd row folded and I have a good pad. It was totally manageable. I'm 31 and healthy. 5'11". No problem. Not ideal of course but I didn't have to set up a tent! Nice and quiet inside. I wouldn't do it for more than a few days though.

Thanks for the replies guys. looks like thats not as good of an option as I hoped. Its too bad the second row doesnt fold flat. Well, this might not be a deal breaker, but id have to invest in a good roof top tent i suppose. Lots of good info here, ive enjoyed reading everyones builds.

If you don't need all of the second row, plan ahead and remove part/all of it. I'm 6'1", and I can lie flat out in the back of mine with part of the second row removed. Granted, you have to add some "filler" material to build up the second row's footwell, but it's easy enough to get it flat where you can put a full-length pad on top.

Every time I do a camping/road trip in my GX, I always pull the 2nd row out for more room. Ive never attempted to sleep in mine though.

You could make a simple sleeping platform. Lots of guys I'm the 80 forum make a drawer the same height as the top of the 2nd row seat when the top is folded flat. Add a hinged platform to rest on the top of the folded down seat back and you have more length.

there is possibly enough head room to setup a cot as a sleeping platform....and that way you dont have to unpack the whole vehicle bc you can store things under you
if your really good try a camping hammock from the grab handles

I went with the board over the second row seats the first couple of times but it was just a total pain in the ass setting up. So now I just use those foam mats that go together like puzzle pieces and then I put the camping air mattress on top of those.

Cool found my sleeping platform on the last page of that thread.

Mine was a single box sleeping platform so I could use one of the third row seats. The nice thing about the GX is that it looks like you would have a little more head room.

I put the 2nd and 3rd row seats down so that they were level then put a full size blow up mattress over all the seats. It just fit and was pretty level. The mattress was thick so not much head room but plenty of leg room with the front seats moved all the way up.

Same here but I use a futon on top of it, it's more comfortable that way. Can't remember the name, though...

I'm 5'11 and my girlfriend is 5'4 and we have comfortably slept in the back a 2007 4runner numerous times. My knees are slightly bent with 2nd row folded down, if i removed the 2nd row (just 4 bolts) i could probably lay flat.

I built a platform for the back of my GX and shoehorned a full size air up mattress in...sleeps great!

It occurred to me while sleeping in the GX on a camp out this weekend: Should I open a window? I popped open a rear wing window but this kinda defeats the purpose of sleeping in the truck. This maybe a dumb question, but any concerns about lack of oxygen or CO2 buildup? I don't know how well these are ventilated while sitting still with little or no wind.

As many nights as I've slept inside a vehicle, I can't imagine there being any lack of oxygen or gas buildup issues. I don't think even a Lexus is that airtight.....:hillbilly:

In the recent east coast blizzard of 2016 several people died while sitting in their cars with the motors running. Since then I got battery powered CO detectors meant for houses and put them in my vehicles.

Probably because they did not clear the tailpipe of snow.

I am new to the 120 family based out of Draper, UT. I have a 2005 Blizzard Pearl GX470. I took my vehicle out to the west desert of Utah this past weekend with a group of Boy Scouts. I opted to try sleeping in my vehicle instead of on the ground. I did pack my tent and pad in case I needed to go to the ground.

I folded the 2nd and 3rd rows flat and extended the head rests to the last locked position, moved the front seats as far forward as they would go and then inflated a queen sized air mattress on top. I did put my tent which was still rolled up under the mattress between rows 2-3 for a little extra support. I was worried that I would feel the seats underneath or that the mattress would sag down into the gaps between the seats (I'm a big guy 6'1" 250lb) I slept with my head up by the passenger seat and was very comfortable all night, albeit a little cold, the temp dropped to 27 degrees. I attached a photo of the setup. There was ample room for me to roll from side to side without banging into the roof or feeling claustrophobic.

I was pleased with the results and can't wait to get out again, this time with my 8 and 6 y.o. boys.
