I decided it was time to replace my center console as I really hate not having an armrest. Since security is not really a concern, I went with the cheap option and put in a Smittybilt. I used the existing bolt holes for the stock console towards the rear and put a nut zert into the stock floor mount towards the front. I did not use the riser piece that comes with the console.

The space between the E-brake is tight, but I wanted the pad where my elbow would be comfortable.

Console looks great! Impressive. Should be an excellent armrest for you.

I've got another hose question for you. Did you replace the hoses that are highlighted in the attached diagram? I tried ordering them from Toyota and they are no longer made. I want to get new ones but am unsure where to go...

Hello: No, those are the rock hard original hoses that were one the truck when I bought it. You might try talking to Beno
here on Mud. He is the OEM parts guru. If it is available, he can get it or tell you where.

Appreciate the info!

Installed 80 Series grab handles for me and the wife. Makes it a lot easier to get in now that it is lifted and saves the bearings in the steering column.

Also got my fuel tank replaced through a Toyota recall, no charge.

What was it like to install the grab handles? I've got an 81 year old father who would really appreciate those..

If you have access to a nut sert installer, it is very simple. To buy the whole tool need to install the serts might be expensive. The shop where I work has all the stuff I needed ,so for me it was no problem.

I did a little research and found the tool for about $40 and the serts are around $6-8. Do a search for nutsert tools.

If you decide to do the install, I have a couple of spare handles that I can sell you for cheap. Just let me know.:)

Time for the dreaded rust repair. This is what the outer shell looked like after paint removal, not to bad.

Now you are into it. Following both of your roof line rust repairs. Jumped over from the thread that
Sean has going. You do good work, so you shouldn't have too much trouble with this repair.
Are you removing the headliner for this?

Here are the some of the patch panels I have fabricated. I will paint on Rust Encapsulator to cover the inner shell rust before moving on,and will also use weld through primer on the back side of the panels. The plan is to stitch weld the panels in place. I will post more pics as I move forward.

My plan is to remove the side glass and part of the headliner before welding. When I get to the front the windshield will be coming out also.

You are just using sheet 16 ga?
