My family is coming with this year and I am very excited, wife Heidi, son Abel (13), daughter Ren (9) and pooch August (rad).

Hopefully there will be some other kids in tow?
We'll have our kids (5 & 8). Should be a dozen plus younger kids. Shelley was looking to do some kid activities for everyone; face painting and making me get into some silly costume and make giant bubbles for the kids.

If you have time I would highly recommend dropping down to Blanding to see Natural Bridges, then House on Fire before heading up to Moab. This should give you plenty of buffer time to meet back up with me in Colorado to run the Holy Cross trail on wed/Thurs.

Now days I prefer the Blanding, Bluff, Muley point, Valley of the Gods. Anasazi(General term) history more than Moab. So much to explore that area it’s almost silly. IMO

Let me know if anyone backs out of a deluxe cabin or cabin. I’m still looking for a place to stay due to poor planning on my part. I was out of the country when KOA was making calls.

Camping Cabin 1 & 2 are still being held for SASers.
Send me a message if interested.

Tips for river crossing FWIW
Keep momentum, but try not to create a wake in front of you.
If it’s deep use a towel to cover the grill. It will keep the majority of water from reaching the motor, possibly making the fan go into the radiator or the fan blowing water up onto the distributor.
If you’re not sure how deep it is, Wade out into the water to check how deep it is obviously use caution don’t wade out into rapidly moving a water.
Above all use common sense.😎

Also, let a Jeep go first to see what happens.

The worst thing after getting water logged is getting high centered on an unseen boulder that moved into the path. Not that I’d know anything about that.

Another long day of nickel and dime prep for SAS.
Oil Change and timing check was the big thing. Well, also swapped another of my @orikawa door card (Bryan won last year and gifted me) well nuts to rivnuts. So much better. Love the door cards and with the rivets they are so much tighter.
Also went to Home Depot to get ply wood for the trailer but couldn't stomach the prices. Came home empty handed and will probably figure something else out. Or not.

Took DatSun for a spin. sure is top heavy. Saw this badass 70 series at HD. Surely an omen...

Has anyone driven Stoney Pass trail pulling an overland trailer (like a military trailer or a Turtleback trailer)? If so, what is the difficulty rating?
Trailer not a problem as long as you have the power to pull it. Very cool trail. We did it last year with trailers. Stock FJ40’s struggled with a trailer.

Fixed more trail damage yesterday and started to get the camper ready.

Leaving Thursday morning and I have to work a few more days so running out of time

Every year prior to Solid Axle Summit I have a little sale on my web shop - the Summer Adventure Sale (also the SAS). I almost forgot this year with the engine swap and a bunch of other things happening, but I can’t break with my annual tradition, so…

Sale runs from now through Thursday night (we leave Friday morning). No special code needed, the discount is automatically applied to your cart. Some orders may ship after SAS, but I will do my best to slam stuff out the door before we go. I can also bring orders to Ouray, so please select “local pickup” at checkout and CONTACT ME DIRECTLY if you want to do that!!

See everybody next weekend!

Is it time to leave yet? Geez, the clock is moving so slowly right now. Ugh!

Just got back from the shake-down loop. She's slow like I rememberd. On the other hand, the journey IS the destination. The trailer is just over 3,000 pounds. That's a big ask of a 3.4 liter turbo diesel.
