I did it last year with my homemade family style bikini top. Had a tarp, got dumped on a couple times.
I know a guy who can get you a killer deal on a soft top

I plan to run a family bikini top and I hope to have a soft top for the afternoon storms.

Done it once up there in late fall and it was amazing. Summer storms are what concerns me.

I remember that vividly!

This was right after the summit between Ouray and Telluride after we all got rained and then snowed/sleeted on. It was clear and brightish right before that at the bottom.

Yes, they are only a couple hundred apart, will be good to see you and the Kansas crew. Excited there are more 40’s coming than last time I came.

I asked Jeff how it’s going with the list to be called, here’s his response:

‘We are getting through them (the registrants to be called) we’re pretty much not moving too far ahead on the list past people (who don’t answer their call) so if we get seven or eight that we’ve called and we don’t actually talk to them then we just pause and we wait and then we come back. We don’t want to book a bunch of people who got spots at the very end and completely skip people who got spots in the beginning.’

That being said…. Answer your phone so KOA can move ahead. Otherwise, I’ll tell him to move through the list regardless if he’s spoken to you.

If you are not planning on staying at the KOA or don’t need a reservation at KOA, either let me know in a private message or just let KOA know.

No problem. I hadn’t heard of Brown Dog but I do know about the Brown Mountain Mine on Corkscrew. If we run Engineers together you will have to point it out to me.

For an example, I might be interested in a camper spot that has hookups, or a cabin with a kitchen, but it’s not clear on their website whether that is a readily available option. If memory serves me correctly, those options are very limited and I would expect that those spots would go to the organizers and/or directors. As an example, we might be inclined to stay in Ouray if the only option at the KOA is off-the-grid camping. Knowing this information may help cut the list down.

I’m sure that calls are challenging for most. I am typing this message from one of those back-to-back meetings that I’d bet many of us experience during an all too familiar work week. That is a topic of conversation for another day and event. I trust that there are good reasons for not using an automated booking system though I can honestly say that I am fretting my call when I do receive it as I expect that I will not be able to answer, or if I am able to answer, I wouldn’t be able to make a decision as I would want to run the options by my wife before making a reservation.

I’m good. My biggest concern right now is whether I can get my front driveline to work by July with enough time for testing. No worries about the accommodations, though those traveling from out of state might be in a different situation and require a higher priority over us.

I have been before so I know the layout. With that said. I made a copy of the map, picked a few spots, so when I got the call, I could ask about price and if available. It was very helpful. KOA was happy that I had done my research and he could just see what was what. I will point out that the main event has been in the area of tent spots t21-t22. I also looked at the bathhouse location. These are things I looked at, so I could walk to each. I have heard that the food truck guy from last year is now cooking for KOA. Less food for me to pack!

The stoke is real.

I'll be in Telluride next week doing some back country snowboarding and am hoping to skin my way up to the power generating facility on the black bear pass road, if avalanche conditions allow. If anyone is local, you're welcome to join. I'll grab some pictures if this works out to keep up the motivation

I reserved a full hookup RV spot and it was a little over $500 for the week. For those of you that know, we’re in the same spot as the past few years. You only have to put a deposit down now as well, I think I paid around $120. The rest is due when you arrive.

FYI if you buy the yearly KOA membership for $36, you get something like a $50-60 discount on the reservation (at least for my RV site) so that’s a good way to cut a couple bucks off.

We tent camp and share the site with other people, so that really defrays our personal cost as well. YMMV.
