Did you ever find any? no worries if not. I feel like I can modify some to make it work too. Thanks!

Unfortunately not, it looks like we've clearanced them all.

Well I got some insurance so I can get a plate on this piggy! I did Haggerty this time and I got it for half the price that I was doing for farm bureau that the fj40 was insured by. I feel pretty good about it. I got it insured for a number that wont be devastating if we have some sort of natural disaster. I will be heading off the island in early September and will get the plate when I am off the island.

Did you get “cherished value” coverage as well? I think for mine it was like $10-15 more a year and you automatically get the vehicle back if totaled; no buyback

Hell yeah I did! its cool they do that. I actually am pretty pleased with the insurance price. Puts the mind at ease. ( I sound like a satisfied customer commercial)

cheep pressure regulator seemed to work. however I did realize that the throttle lever gear was off a tooth as well. not sure if that had anything to do with my issue or not but I did fix that too. Focusing on stuff to make it more daily drivable now. going to find some tires. since its going to more of a daily driver I dont need a lift. I am either thinking 750 R16 on either the summit smoothie wheels or city racer wheels or 30x9.50 on stock steelies.

going to make a quick list of todos-
I think I have tracked the headlights down to the switch. I need to buy one. City racer has them I believe. I also need to find the wires for the reverse light and 4x4 light. modify the trans tunnel slightly to make it fit with the 4speed right now the tunnel is just sitting loosley in there. I also need to drain the water and replace with coolant. drain diff and trans fluid and replace. (any one have recommendations for gear oil for these?). Lastly I want to weld up a few holes in the rear part of the roof before I tackle the rockers and floors. Eventually I want to get a new windshield and gasket put in. The current windshield gasket is toast to say the very least. and the glass has a crack in the corner where a rock hit it. the rest of the weather stripping needs attention as well. Ill slowly buy stuff to put it all back right.

I did put my yakima bars on. you can see the rust hole that I threw some rust converting paint on for the time beaing. I also threw some blankets down for seat covers. I will eventually get the Cruiser Corps seat covers. They are really nice.

Not a lot done today. I confirmed I am going 12v power to the head light switch but not after the switch. Guessing the switch is bad. Of course I cant get that dang set screw out of the knob because I dont have the right size allen key. However if i am replacing that switch anyway I might just cut it off with the die grinder. Ill try a few more tricks tomorrow and order the switch tonight.

I pulled the wheel to clean the turn signal contacts and the high beam contacts. turn signals seem to be more energetic if that makes since.

I also gave it a bath. I might do the flood treatment on this rig. It has some patina that I don't want to get more rusty like the wheel arches and the roof.

So we have a couple of storms coming. so the 55 is jacked up on blocks and on High ground the best I could with what I had. there is an evacuation order in effect right now. My wife and I are staying. From what I was told from somebody on the discussion with the Emergency board, the main reason for evac was overwash from the ocean on HW12 that could impact the use of the main road. and EMS will not be able to do their job. that being said I still have major PTSD from the last major storm we had in 2019. I would 100% try to drive the land cruiser off the island if I had a tag on it. RIght now as I am typing this the sun is out and there is no wind. BUT the Ocean is angry for sure. Kinda the calm before the storm. Ill be sure to post at the end of the week and give an update. I really flipping need to build a platform for my stuff.

all being said above, I am slowly getting the 55 back together. Just with this storm stuff everything is at a stand still.

I am still debating what I am going to do as for tires and wheels. as soon as I get back from this Maine wedding trip and all this storm stuff is settled I am going to buy something for the 55. My top 4 options right now that I think I like are from most expensive to cheapest: 1. city racer wheels with 750 r16 bf goodrich mud terrains. (my ideal set up for stock suspension) 2. city racer 16 or 70 series 16 inch with 235 85 r16 tires of some sort. Link to the 70 series wheels - (Steel Wheel - Fits 16x6" 4x/5x/6x/7x Applications (WHL60262) - https://cruiserteq.com/steel-wheel-fits-16x6-4x-5x-6x-7x-applications-whl60262/) 3. city racer with bias ply power kings. 4. OEM rims with 30x9.50 bfgoodrich all terrains. I think these are my best options. I'll be sure to post when I get something under it.

As the title of the build states- I do want this land cruiser to be the family wagon so I am keeping it more stock for the time being.

Other updates: I ordered the toyota headlights for it - the koito headlight kit. I got it for a deal at 38$. I have a passenger front door window crank coming. and I also got the headlight switch from city racer. I dont think these will come in any time soon due to the weather.

All cruiser projects suspended here on Hatteras for storm prep too. Buxton has been taking a beating the last two high tide cycles, but at least there shouldn't be any sound tide with this one. It is nice to have the island quiet and empty.

Luckily we have just had some wash over on the north end of the Island. probably more later. But like you said sound side flooding is the bad one for us and It has not been bad. I saw some drone footage up there that showed similar to the images above. Buxton is getting it worse than down here I think. I saw some of the biggest surf I have seen in a long time yesterday and today.

Storm update - No flooding in the village of ocracoke. The north end of the island where hwy 12 is will need repair as the storm swell washed away the dunes in some spots on the north end of the island. Unfortunately that means some of the parts I am waiting on for the 55 will get delayed.

the surf was really good today and yesterday!

Best news is the 55 is good to go. For your viewing pleasure here are some random shots from just before the storm and just after.

Side quest while waiting on parts for the fj55.

I finally got around to pulling the G200 isuzu engine on my 1987 isuzu pup. Long story short a head gasket turned into a might as well and pull and reseal everythig. It has a new machined head and I have it back together sans intake and valve cover and almost ready to drop it back in the truck.

Ill be very happy when this little truck is working again. I blew the head gasket on june 17th and have not driven it since.

It was a good thing I pulled the front cover and the oil pan and replaced gaskets. I think this thing was seeping from everywhere.

Pardon my shop floor.... engine work at its best. Getting that timing chain back on was a challenge.

First day Of school (work) today! Couple of updates: Drove the salted pork wagon to school this morning!

my headlight switch came in yesterday. I am going to replace it today after school. I am hoping that the one thats in it is the issue. I was messing with the heater switch. checking the fuse and the fan was working all of a sudden and then stopped working. Not really sure whats up with that. but before the under the seat rear heater was working now Neither are working. I know I popped a fuse in the fuse block because my rear heater stitch connectors came in contact with the metal dash plate. I dont think the switch is original but I could be wrong. I will post pictures of that tomorrow. If anybody has any thoughts on that let me know.

I should also get some new headlights today. I payed 35$ for the OEM kit!!!

For some annoying news: some of my insurance on the house went up and now I am not sure I will be able to buy any rims any time soon. I think I am going to have to run the splits. I think I am just going to rock some power king 750 r16 tires under it. I am going to do lots of research on how to do it safely. I am going to chew on it a little longer. I had all but made up my mind to so city racer 16s and 235 85 r16s.... yarg! But I do like the look of the bias plys and the split rims have their benefits too.

Some things I want to get done this week: Fix the head lights, get the heater back working, buy tires. These are my goals before Sunday! I need to start welding the new rockers in soon too. I think thats a October project though.

Morning light! (apparently I did not clean the soap off well enough)

A perfect truck for the island!
Its going to be great for down here man! You are pretty close to getting yours back going right? again gotta have a 55 meet up here at some point.

Let us know if you decide to replace those tires yourself. It's doable very safely but there is a safety precaution or two to consider.
What are the safety precautions. I feel like I have seen a step by step on mud too.

All the normal stuff. Stand with your body out of the way before you begin airing, etc. But the one belt and suspender precaution is to wrap a chain through the center of the rim, around the tire, and hook the chain on itself. That way if the retaining ring were to slip while airing up, it can't go anywhere. Make sure your tube protectors are good (they go over the rim, under the tube).

So I did get some good parts in today and installed them. I have some good news and bad news. the good news is my 35$ koito headlights are genuine and what a deal. this has got to be the best toyota parts upgrade for dollar out there! I had them on my fj40 and they were a huge upgrade. I also got a silver toyota window crank from Cruiseroutfitters that closeley matches the fj55 chrome cranks that are on it now. It looks good and its toyota. The original one had the knob break off. I still have the original. seems people want big money for chrome fj55 window cranks.

I also got the headlight switch but It turns out that was not the problem! dang! the only thing not working on the fj55 right now is the running lights and headlights. I have brake lights, turn signals, and hazzards but NO licensplate lamp, rear running tail lights, side markers, or headlights. Kinda at my witsend with frustration on it. If you guys have any good suggestions on what to look for let me know. I have checked all the fuses. the fuse panel looks fine but I might sand terminals with memory cloth tomorrow. I am guessing its a bad connection or a ground somewhere. I just dont know where to look. I left them on once while trying to figure out stuff and forgot to turn them off when I left the house and the lights were on when I came back. Thats the only time I have seen them work.

Yeah my thought was to do the chain thing and then use the Milwaukee portable air thing to fill it up with the tires under the shed. I think I am going to go for it. I have been saying for years I wanted to get those power king tires on a cruiser and I am going to do it.
