Tell me what I need to know about the fj55 other than they rust out bad. I am swapping my fj40 for a 55 soon. Going to join the pig section. I am very excited! as I posted on my fj40 build thread I have wanted one since watching 50 first dates!

I know the one I am going for has typical rocker issues. (comes with new rockers) its a 1971 has 3 speed same as my 40. I am hopping to get it to daily driver status.

My first Cruiser was a 1977 FJ55 I bought in 1987. It was just starting to bubble in all the usual spots. It was my DD and I took it to Assateague Island to drive on the beach. It was a blast. But the boxed frame held sand over the years and undoubtedly contributed to it's demise to cancer. With limited resources to replace a gas tank that kept springing leaks and the parts going obsolete, I reluctantly sold it to a young guy in 1997 who had dreams of restoring it, yet he never returned to pick up my extra parts including two new OEM rocker panels!?? He worked at NAPA and I think he just wanted to tinker with the engine. I doubt he ever did anything with it 'cause he kept it parked out back of his girlfriend's apartment. I had already bought my 1978 FJ40, so that took away some of the sting. I still miss ole "Eeyore".

As long as the frame is solid, you can repair most of the body. My first 55 sat for 10 years before I had the body work done, a 1977. Then a carb fix and it ran great. Being in the Northeast salt zone, it did eventually rust again.

Purchased another 1977 55, just a coincidence, has some work done an still wheel it regularly. This one I do not drive in the winter due to road salt. However, if we do have heavy rain and the road salt gets washed away I will take it out.

Good luck with search.
