I owned this Argus a few years ago. It ate two rolls of film, so I gave it to Goodwill. I used it to take some photos, right after I bought the truck.

@Roastchestnuts I’m by no means a photographer, but I mess around with my Pentax K1000 on occasion. They came with a 2.0f or 1.8F 50mm lens, but there was an optional 1.2F 50mm lens. There are lots of times I wish I had that little bit of extra aperture - sometimes in marginal or golden hour light the aperture isn’t enough so I have to slow the shutter speed way down, and well … I don’t have the steadiest hands so the results aren’t great. Or even with the slow shutter speed the results just don’t have enough exposure.

So where should I look for that 1.2f 50mm lens? I’ve occasionally poked around eBay over the years with no luck. Are there specific websites for old camera gear? I really am way out of my element here. Maybe there’s even aftermarket 1.2f 50mm K-mount lenses. Any advice?
I have a few places I keep an eye out for stuff. I have bought a few things from this japanese store off ebay and their websight just read the condition and it will be fine. https://irohascamera.com/

SMC Pentax-A 50mm F/1.2 Lens for K Mount #40400C3 - https://irohascamera.com/collections/pentax/products/smc-pentax-a-50mm-f-1-2-lens-for-k-mount-40400c3 they even have a 50mm f1.2 its pricy though. I saw another when browsing quick and noticed in condition it had haze.

I also like keh.com but they can be a crap shoot.

I have bought a few things from Cardinal Camera Used - https://cardinalcameraused.com/ and they have been good experiences but you also have to pay close attention to condition and ask questions.

Carful with ebay... but ebay does favor buyers, if you receive a lens from ebay and its damaged you CAN send it back and get your money back and there is nothing the ebay seller can do.

I had a argus brick!

I still think one of the best deals in photography right now are the minolta srt101 series of cameras. it was my first real camera.

This is awesome, thank you!

Well I finally got the belleview winch installed! I went back and fourth about which bumper to use and I settled on the bumper that came with the saltwagon. The winch bumper I already had was thicker 1/4 inch and it already had a hole cut for the fairlead. The mounting plate that came on the fj40 bumper was for a 8274. So I cut the 8274 mounting plate off and welded on one for my belleview that I made out of 1/4 plate steel. It turned out pretty well.

Please do not judge me on my welds... first time using flux core. and I am still learning the art of welding. I think it turned out well though. at least well enough to use.

Cutting the 8274 mounting plate off below. I figured too if I wanted to upgrade to the 8274 in the future I just have to drill 2 more holes in the belleview mounting plate and then I could mount the 8274.
IMG_1141.jpg

Welding with the flux core. lit my stool on fire. I gotta invest into a welding table or something. Welded the top and bottom and did a couple of 1 inch beads on the inside where I could reach. Overkill since the original just had it on the outside.
IMG_1142.jpg

Being flux core I had lots of grinding with a flappy wheel to get the spatter off.
IMG_1143.jpg

Sanded and did some prep then I self etch primered everything inside and out to prevent rust.

IMG_1144.jpg

Painted it black but I think I am going to buy rustoleum satin nickel to paint it in the future. This is what I did on the seat frames and backs and it looked the part.

Looks really good all mounted up. certainly makes it less bouncy on dirt and potholes witch is a welcome surprise. I still need to get my cables for operating the clutch and brake. I need to buy power cable too still. and then I can spool on the cable.

Now everyone is going to expect you to winch them out of the sand traps. 😆

Really like the new front! If you’re looking to add clean power cables to your winch, I used @Fourrunner services for my 8274. Just a recommendation. I can provide pictures to give you an idea too

haha there have been several times I have driven on the beach ramp early in the morning and some dumb dumb has driven out there in their honda civic and gotten massively stuck. I would not know where to hook it but I could get them out!

Thanks! I just bought some cable from Offroad Accessories | Montana Jack's Outpost, Warn winches/Snoplows - https://www.montanajacks.com/ , I bought a few other things like cable boots too. Its not as much wiring as the 8274. Really just one cable to a solenoid to the motor as its only a winch in motor.

Well done. Looks fantastic.

I look often for an 8274 for my 40. The bellview looks right at home.
I am keeping an eye out for a 8274 just in case one shows up close for cheeper. you never know. Not that I disslike this winch but It would be fun to restore another. like I said in the post all I would need to do is drill two more holes on the left side of the plate for mounting. The right side holes on the plate I made are in the same measurements as for a 8274.

I like the idea of Satin Nickle Rustoleum instead of black. But, I'd reach for a factory color. Pewter in a can from Cruiser Corps.

IMG_6777.JPG

Mine originally came with a white bumper, painted by a previous owner. I've wanted to straighten it out with a hydraulic press, etc. It already has patina, and old-40-flavor. The contrast of the pewter bumper and the shadows below are significant visual elements of the original truck. That, and the bumper sticks out so far. Even if the bumper isn't original, something is missing when it sports black enamel.

I am not going to keep it black so no worries there. (not my favorite either) Its just what I had. Things will flash rust here in 10 seconds because of the humidity and salt in the air so I had to do somthing. I didnt realize cruiser corps still sold the factory color. I feel like I had an issue getting it when I did my seat frames and back. I cant remember. Ill order somthing today.

I sanded all the paint of the outside of my SOR bezel. It still looks like this, three-years-later. It does receive paste wax and steelwool, but it is parked outside. The desert Southwest is kind to machines, the soil is alkaline and pH-buffering. Welds rust up fast, regardless of climate. Welding changes the base metal somehow. Grinding off mill scale, or sandblasting a body will promote rust too.

edit. It isn't the dry climate of the Southwest, it is that the rest of the country is living in the dark. I'm pretty sure it is a perfect blend of sunny altitude (not at the top of the mountains where it always rains and snows) and latitude (more direct sun).

Hum thats interesting. I know when I was in Taos NM I saw cars from the 20s that have sat out side for a long time relatively rust free. If I could convince my wife to move there I would such a beautiful place.

The satin nickel is super close to the oem pewter and 1/4 the cost of the cruiser corps color.

i used it on my seat frames per your recommendation ( I think it was you that told me about that color)

Taos is a great place. Tons of contrast. But, if you and your wife move to Santa Fe, we could go on trail rides together. If I was moving to a scenic landscape, it would be on the other side of the Gorge, Tres Piedras. The town there has some serious machinery; you get all this automotive and an abandoned narrow gauge railroad to look at, but, it is like a half-hour or more for anything greater than a dinner, not even gasoline. I'd love to live in White Rock, just down the road. It is like everything that older New Mexico is not, tidy neighborhoods, you'll have a home with a functional garage, suburbia, but in a scenic natural setting. El Rito, Dixon, and La Madera are neat small towns, too. Anything on the Turquise Trail would be awesome as well - ghost towns. More than abandoned cars, there are entire towns that are abandoned.
