Introducing Rusty Griswold.

A 1970 US Spec FST rebuild by hOOter

Purchased a little while ago.

Little is known about its history. The last known residence is in a ranch in Louisiana as a hunting rig. 36509, 136509, 236509? Dunno.

PTO winch, Vader light, F motor, column shift, original but as one could assume...it’s a bit rusty. Mainly surface rust but will get a new front crossmember and a minor frame repair.

That lock is a simple padlock latch mount for the glovebox door. Not related to FST doors

Head/rods cam lifters removed and sent the head to the shop for cleaning/magnaflux/valve stem seals.

Worked on the bell housing.
Mine had a brazed crack running the length of the bell housing.
I got a donor one from a free parts rig I have sitting around.

Seized motor required me to get at it from below.

I’ve never rebuilt a tranny so maybe a stupid question but can those gears be flipped around and still be functional? Cool stuff, loving the resurrection!

but can those gears be flipped around and still be functional?
No.
The groove you see is for the shift fork that slides the gear from first to neutral to reverse.
They can’t be simply flipped. Unfortunately on mine, one was chewed up on the ‘first’ side and the other was chewed up on the ‘reverse’ side. Both were junk.

That gear is unsynchronized. In other words, grind em till you find em. They are almost all trash
