Driving to work this morning, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Rather suddenly, no forward momentum when it's in drive. In 2nd it will go forward but not much, it drives fine in 1st gear. I drove on the grass at 5mph to the exit ramp and am sitting here contemplating what to do. I've never let a dealer or other mechanic touch my nuts and bolts but I don't have a lift and don't think I could drop the transmission and T-Case myself in the driveway. I am dreading the thought of a dealer or mechanic but damn, doesn't look like I have much choice. Call USAA towing?

What does the motor sound like?

Running and reving smooth and normal?
Or sputtering and struggling?

Just trying to isolate your thoughts if it is a physical connection loss (trans/tcase/drive flange) or electrical one (tps, shift selenoid, etc)

Tim, check your fluid. I had a clogged transmission filter once and it wouldnt drive. I would check that as well.

Dang, that sucks. Does it have fluid in it? My trans line busted at the cooler and puked all the fluid out once.
- Fluid is fine, nice, clean

What does the motor sound like? - Motor sounds great, nothing out of the ordinary

Running and reving smooth and normal? - Revs great, runs smooth, no sputtering or struggling

- I feel like it's a physical thing, not electrical.

- Checked fluid AOK, haven't checked filter. It's on the flatbed now, damn...

It's at the dealer :worms::skull:, I swore I'd never let it be touched by a "mechanic". This sucks, I need to get a lift soon.

They dropped the transmission yesterday and I don't have an update yet. Waiting to hear from them.

They said that the clutch plates need to be replaced along with bands and that (of course) it's best to do a full rebuild. Who'da'thunk?

funny how fast i sell my 343s but my 442s keep taking up shop space :flipoff2:

i have a used one if you want to go that route.

They're already into it, otherwise yea, that would have been the route go to. Thanks for the offer.

if paying the big bucks at the dealer you might as well pay to get it rebuilt. i would never pay someone to put in used parts. i only do that for my own junk.

Bands in an A442f? Are you inclined to tell us what this rebuilt will cost?

Ask about the rebuild price, a new a343 can be had for like $2700. On the new one have them click the pressure up one notch.
