Hi everyone, I'm Matt, the new Sales and Marketing Director at Rosen, and I'm leaning hard into updating some of our systems to better fit the automotive market. We created new systems for the Mercedes Sprinter Van and the INEOS Grenadier, and it is high time we made a system to be designed more specifically for the Land Cruiser. This thread has been very enlightening as to the positives and negatives that you have found with our universal system.

In all candidness the earliest adopters started buying our universal aircraft system and putting it in the Land Cruiser. It worked well and we were glad so many of you like them, but we feel it's time to take your feedback and make some Land Cruiser specific updates. We'll also be working to make the upgrades available and backward compatible with current systems that people already own.

Currently on the list of upgrades are:
  • We're making the mount plate size exactly fit the factory Land Cruiser mount so it better covers the opening.
  • We're moving to a locking ball mount design with a shorter post. The mount will come factory set according to the standard for the Land Cruiser that you have, but will be adjustable if you have a different configuration.
  • We're updating the lens size and design to better fit Land Cruisers.
  • We will have a different mount that is designed for 40 Series Land Cruisers, and any other models/custom configurations which need a side mount with perpendicular post orientation.
  • We're testing with darker lens options and blackout top portions of the lens.
I'd love to hear your feedback on anything else you'd like to see and for you to share any other experiences!
Great news. Making it the exact same size and shape would be a huge plus.

Darker / not transparent would be nice, for us in the desert. That's been the reason I haven't made the jump. Yeah, I can get it tinted, but for the price it would be nice to have it ready to go.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, finding that sweet spot is imperative. We're working on variable tint visors for our aircraft line, but I don't know if the price point would be palatable in the automotive market.

We have tried black opaque acrylic lenses, however they absorb more light and do not hold up when left for prolonged periods in a parked car in the sun. While we recommend not leaving our visors in the sun for long periods when the vehicle is parked, the transparent have shown a stronger resistance to deformation, which makes sense since they don't absorb as much as the black. We are looking at a darker lens for automotive.

We are also testing hard coated black polycarbonates for their performance to determine if they would make suitable opaque alternatives, for those that want a stylish opaque alternative.

I'll keep you posted!

Really cool you guys are engaging with us and interested in feedback.

I'll say this, If you had an ABS option (or whatever material you determine works, that is not transparent) I would order a set today. It's so bright in phoenix and I'm not flying VFR :)

if one were to buy the Universal Ball Joint Mount Automotive System

is the main difference with the revision the lens size and mounting plate covering the Toyota pattern ceiling hole?

I've been wanting to pick up a set for a while and all those changes sound excellent. The lens being a bit small held me back a bit from wanting to pull the trigger, I'd love for it to be as big or even bigger than stock. But most importantly let us know when the updated version is available!

Have the visors been updated at this point? Or still evaluating sizes and shapes?

I make custom darker lenses to add on to your Rosen system that properly fit the cruiser, so if you want the Rosen system and properly fitting lenses, it is possible. They do have a point about deformation in direct sunlight heat in hot climates, that could be a problem, but I haven't had any complaints about that with my lenses.

Moved mine to the 60. They rock! If you are wearing sunglasses the opacity is perfect, in my opinion.

My 80 with the lenses I make. Darker, larger. I never need to slide the lense side to side anymore, used to have to do that all the time with the original lense, especially annoying when driving directly into the sun.

So I have been running the 80 without visors for years and finally decided to call and get a set. Great timing, they are releasing an 80 series specific set now. I think they start shipping in august and look to be $15 more that the original.

From Dan @ Rosen
The approx. lens dimensions for the new design are 18” x 7.5” vs the 15” x 6” lens used in the original version. Also, the mounting plate on the new design is slightly larger to provide better coverage of the opening in the headliner from the LC factory visors. Below are drawings for both systems and attached are images comparing the 2 systems installed. The new version was designed specifically for the 80 series, but will likely fit on other models (except 40 and possibly 55 series)
