Finally getting some time to finish up the ceiling stuff, had to make a little adapter for the dome light. Not having a sunroof is more work than expected!

It will be quite nice to have my dome light back though, as well as support the headliner so it's not bouncing around a bunch.

Pretty much the entire ceiling is insulated well now, I'll be paying close attention next summer to see if it makes any difference at all:

Next up is figuring out what to do with this space:

Word directly from Nitro, twisted axle is a NON issue. "Put it back in and expect years of use moving forward"

I really am worried about the other side though :(
Yep they told me the same thing. I pulled them both and put the OEMs back in. I not going to knowingly run a twisted axle.

Did some digging this weekend.

Replaced lower dash, center register, mirror controls, put red LEDs in the climate controls, and cleaned the hell out of the rest of the parts.

Started with just replacing the lower dash and steamrolled from there:

I had no idea new plastic would be something I'd ever be stoked on.

Replaced the key surround with new OEM too:

It definitely felt like sacrilege to take the die grinder to this brand new piece, but the CarPlay is worth it!

IMG_0508.jpg

Did I have to do this? No, but I wanted to:

Spent a minute polishing this knob, because it was off. It had a lot of white crusty residue on it from years of neglect.

The backside of this was pretty dirty, so I gave it a good pressurized air cleaning, then replaced the center register with new OEM

What the guts of my Icons look like. Doing a little experimenting to find a good setup. Step 2 will be a full rebuild along with the addition of CDC valve and finned reservoirs. Can't wait to get it all done and do some testing.

Recently had to get emissions checked and failed due to the PAIR system being removed by somebody. Emissions actually passed with flying colors, it was just visual that failed. Biggest concern was the connection to the airbox since I added second battery (typically in the way). Was clued in to a Dayco part number (D72070) for an “L” shaped hose that when trimmed, fits perfectly (thanks @white thunder)! Pretty stoked. Went back and tested, passed all the way around.

Added this beefy boy yesterday (front Whitline swaybar). Just drove around town a little last night, so don’t have a lot of thoughts on drivability, but it most certainly made the ol’ girl flatter in the turns and more stable feeling. Coupled with my @LandCruiserPhil quick disconnects up front, I think I will be set for all driving conditions now (rear is on order, that’ll be last step).

Interested on your disconnect/reconnect feedback. Many claims due to the stiffness make reconnecting not so easy. Also when disconnected due to the design front driveline clearance may be an issue when disconnected.

Will report back. Was easy-peasy to connect axle side after I started install with the bushing side.

Going to be a long one today, new radiator/hoses, new dual battery wire routing, oil pump cover/seal, front main, cleaning, photoman alt.

Welp, not as productive as I’d hoped, thought I had ordered an @OTRAMM crank tool but I was wrong :( so I had to make a janky one.

I was able to get some years of funk off.

one of the reasons there was so much gunk (oil cover gasket):

Been sitting on my shelf for quite some time, figured now was a good time to install (ford 90* oil filter mount):

photoman bracket and sequoia alternator has been sitting right next to the ford 90 for just as long:

Biggest bummer of the evening is the el cheapo amazon special aluminum radiator. First sign of things not working out with it is the shroud mounts not lining up. Will need to make new mount tabs tomorrow.

Plenty of mods to this POS Chinese radiator to make it work. We'll see how long it lasts. I think I must've been sent a 3FE radiator. Red arrows are where China thought the shroud should attach, blue arrows are where I added mounts for my shroud, yellow arrow is where I had to re-purpose one of the original mounts into the top tube that usually breaks off the plastic tank.

All went back together just fine...except for that one bolt left over.

I also had a fuel boiling issue this summer at high ambient temps and high altitude. Rebuilt the evap can. This was on deconstruction, pretty messed up.

Since I had to take the front apart to get all the engine stuff squared away, I figured now would be a good time to re-do the dual battery wiring that was all last minute before cruise Moab last year.

Set up the new switch/breaker holder on the bench before installing (using old ACR and new waterproof breaker):

Have a trip coming up and needed the @NLXTACY QPM set up in more of a final form. Recently found a 110W Motorola VHF radio and wanted that in the back (manual distinctly states to not mount within 3ft of humans). Wanted to clean up the solar and swap out the bluesea fuse panel for a 2 zone one (6 circuits always on and 6 ignition tied). Needed to get the WeBoost finalized and hardwired, and get the air compressor in there too!

With all these wires, I figured I need something to keep the wires organized a little. Prototyped (out of aluminum) a quick little wire chase that goes along the top with slots for zip ties. The aluminum got a little warpy from cutting with plasma, but will do for now. Will have some laser cut from steel and powdercoated next.

Lastly, got my @Outsane rear ashtray delete set up on a pigtail with nice connector so I can easily unplug it before taking the factory plastic off, when needed. Now I've got a nice easy spot for powering the fridge, and a USB 3.0 with voltmeter in the back.

I really do like the QPM. It's amazing how much stuff can fit back there in that spot and no-one is the wiser. Now just have to figure something out to cover the old sub hole. Seems like something cool could be done with that. Maybe a little shelf or something.
