Here's a nugget for someone. I recently replaced the '95s radiator, which was in fine condition, thank you very much, until I broke the number 3 bypass hose nipple.

Has anyone had any luck repairing these? If so, I have a project for you. I'd hate to scrap this one.

Search. But the outcome(s) have not been great on repairs.

Thanks; I thought probably not, but I'm just so cheap I hate to throw anything away (even if it's gettgin recycled).

I have not had the pleasure, yet, of breaking one off. If I did I would first try to drill and tap for a 1/8" NPT and then thread in a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" nipple fitting. If that didn't work then I'd be looking into replacing the whole damn thing. :(

The jb weld gob repairs havent faired so well but several have done as above with a brass barbed fitting, drilled and tapped and faired ok.

Post it up in ONSC classifieds (say hello while your at it) and here may be some takers. Theres a few HG repairs looming and i know at least one guy is after a new radiator at the right price. Too bad we just had our triad area dinner last night and a couple CLT folks came up mudshipping some items this way.

That was my first thought, but...

My radiator has a plastic cap (secured with a series of tabs curled up and over the lip) and the nipple is part of that molded plastic. I couldn't see any way to hold something under pressure in the plastic wall. I have replaced it with an OEM model (it's OEM AFAIK). The replacement was noticeably heavier, which pleased me.

Will do. Sorry I missed the meeting, but I was tutoring a HS civics student (my 15 year old).

A noble cause indeed. Just had seen you posting more recently and wasnt sure you were aware of the NC clubhouse and kept meaning to send an invite.

Used a 3/8 NPT Tap with Brass fitting with Teflon Tap and its fine. Never leaked a drop.
Take your time tapping.

Have a new Koyo in attic rafters for the dreaded day.

The Ron Davis radiator kinda takes care of it by putting in a bung and using a threaded barb fitting.

Just a crazy idea, but is there some reason why you can't take it to a radiator shop, and have them just put on a new plastic top tank???? The tanks on both the top, and bottom of the radiator are removable. So any good radiator shop where you live should be able to change that tank for you.

The labor at our shop here to have that done is more than the cost of new one.

If nothing else, it's a free phone call to his local radiator shop to see just how much it would cost him, right.

Based on what I know you'll have to suck it up and buy a new rad. Any repair won't last and you'll always be thinking about when or if the repair will fail. Replacing the top tank will be equal to or more expensive than a full rad replacement.

Yeah, but our local rad shop just closed recently. Been there forever. Despised by many but did quality work.
