Questions about an SOA for a broke college student.

why would you not just get trail gear high steer arms? They are cheap and will get the job done without problems. It sounds like this SOA will be a hack job. No offense but just do some research first. springing over a truck is easy to do, but a little harder to do correctly to not put you or others in danger of getting killed.
See i have done my research, i just wanted to get more info on why you needed the high steer and what the problem it was fixing was. i plan to do this right but i dont think you need to go out and buy all new fab parts for a SOA. Most of those i can either fab or have done for me. I just wanted to get a grasp of what had to be done to the steering after doing an SOA. I may still go for high steer, but now im going to see if i can find a drag link that will fit the new setup so i dont have to spend the money on trail gear. I dont plan to go crawling but i do want to be able to do some light off roading.
 
High steer arms are $250 bro... Get a part time job at Chick-fila for two weeks. That's all you technically NEED to buy other then longer shocks and brake lines and if you're careful when you cut brackets off the axle.

It's way more of a fun project when you have the right parts

Hi-steer arms are the right way to do this.

Bent arms and steep angles cause bump steer , bent arms can bend more and break and generally frowned upon.


A full marlin high steer is $479 and replaces things that will need replaced anyways. Save for a few months if you need to, but just do it right.

The stock drag link and tie rod will work with the high steer arms, that’s why I’m confused about all this other modifying stuff. Don’t reinvent the wheel, the high steer arms will move your steering setup above the springs where they should be and are the solution everyone knows about
 
There isn't a drag link that will just go on it will have to be custom.... i don't even know how much high steer is anymore have it on my 91 sas 4runner i built 15 years ago spend the money for it.

Spend 200 more for the kit and you’ll have the correct drag link and tie rod in stronger tube and some new Chinese 80 series rod ends. Trail gear will solve all your problems in the short run.

I didnt know they worked with the oem drag links, from what i have read they said that everything had to be replaced. 200 dollars is much easier on me than dropping 400+

All new for 400 with the arms is a no brainer all the tie rod ends that are there more than likely need to be replaced buy the kit man save you money and spend it on the steering its the most important part of a vehicle be a broke collage student on shocks
 
No. Get that idea out of your head.
I found a new pair of Trail Gear high-steer arms on eBay for $180 shipped after searching for 3 minutes.

So, I've only done 2 spring overs, but I've driven the crap out of them and here is some biased advice.

Don't do it. Especially on the East Coast.

A spring (under) lift with OME or similar will work great and require minimal mods. But a spring over will fundamentally change the way the truck works permanently. Some good and some bad, but for daily driving, all bad.

Do you have another car? If not, DO NOT DO A SPRING OVER. Even the smallest spring over is huge. And tippy. Not good for a daily driver.

A spring over will mean BiG tires, which means expensive regearing.

A spring over means you plan to immediately go hard places, and that means lockers, also $$$.

You have a whole life. Do a normal spring under lift with springs and 33 inch tire and enjoy the sweet spot of 60 ownership. Later, with more money and time, do what ever you want.

From my perspective, once you go SOA, you need a normal car for everyday use. That's hard on a college budget. So what's the total you can spend on this? With a Spring over, the lift is just the tiny start, and the lockers, gears and tires, really determine the cost.
