the only difference is really the wheel base length. the basic drivetrain is S/A 40 series...

Got it Wayne,
so an FJ40 will have all the same parts minus the Motor right:)

P

Basically.

F indicates the motor series (F, 2F, etc...)
B can also indicate the motor series (B, 2B, 3B, 13BT...)

J=Land Cruiser (that's simplifying it, but pretty much)

The number equates to the wheelbase. That's why the 43 has a longer wheelbase, and the 45 has a longer wheelbase than that. There are some slight changes to that, like the 45 and 47 are the same frame and chassis, but with a different specific model engine.

So you've pretty much got the jist of it. If you need most parts, parts for an FJ-40 will work. If it has to do with the engine, then you want to find parts from a BJ-40, 41 or 42 (the difference is which specific model of B series engine--basically).

Like I said, I've simplified a lot of it here (look in the various FAQs for more info), but that should give you a good head start on a lot of parts. Things like seats, tie rods, etc... will be interchangeable with the plain FJ-40.

Thanks for all the help. Just having trouble finding little rubber parts like where the windshield sits on the hood. Those little rubber parts that hood sits on when closed. s*** like that:doh:

Dan,

I think you have the 41/42 thing wrong on the engines.. The BJ40/43 has the B, the BJ41/44 have the 2B engine, and the BJ42/46 have the 3B engine. That and gthe 41/44 and the 46 were Japan Domestic Market only.

You should look for pre 8/1980 manufacture BJ40 for any engine parts. after that they went to the 2B or 3B.

i have one of the windsheild gaskets sitting here in EXCELENT shape.
i think i have the windshield flop down rubbers here as well.

The windshield won't fold down on that one anyway. The wiper motor has to be on the top side of the windshield bib.

Mine folds with the bottom mount motor... makes no difference where the wiper motor is.

You are correct. That's what I get for posting late at night....

Hey wayne,
I'll stop looking and just bring you the thing in the next couple of weeks. The tires and rims will be at my door and on my Cruiser in a couple of weeks:) I really want to drive here to ya as it would be a great adventure and she probably needs a good workout. My motor smokes so much on start up my carbon credits are at an all time low:flipoff2:

suggestion, it ANY salt or chemical has been applied to the roads, trailer it with a tarp over it as well.
you know as well as i do, rust is a bitch you can not beat.

cheers

I know I'm watching the weathernetwork all the time but really do think I'm going to have to flat bed the thing to you:(

P

buddy, not my truck.
i make suggestions and it is up to the owner to evaluate the suggestion and accept or reject it.

Salt is the Devils seasoning, up to you whether you want to apply it to your truck or not.

No salt needed:) I hate rust and can't stand to see cool vehicles fall to rust. I'm the garage working on my wheeling rig right now dealing with rust:rolleyes:
And your advice is totally appreciated!
See you soon,
P

Chang,
incorrect statement.
sorry, try again.

I seem to remember having trouble folding the windshield down on the 1975 FJ40, the wiper motor box seemed to be in the way. I also had a 1974 with the wiper motor box on the top side of the windshield bib, and it folded down all the way no problem. But then again, that was many moons ago and it may have been something else preventing it from going all the way down, antenna maybe?

I have a pretty good memory, but it just doesn't last very long.
Folding windshield or no, the 43 is an uber-cool unit.

One thing I noted earlier:

<quote>Got it Wayne,

P </quote>

You have everything from the back of the seats forward as the same as an FJ40 (minus engine, etc). The rear of the rig is essentially an FJ45 (truck bed or troopie). Important for questions about suspension stuff.

:D yeah, I broke my antenna to fold mine in the pic above...

well the truck is back to its owner.
before you guys get any more hot and bothered over this rig here is a list of the issues that this "veneer" truck has:
front drive shaft with an inch of play in the spline (supposed to be tight)
the front ujoint collar shot.
shock boot over rear slip joint.
none of the driveshaft bolts matched
front driveshaft has a huge dent in it.
no heater.
springs twisted like a V,
battery cables
needing replacing,
rad support not installed,
battery stand not supporting the battery,
rad with no drain cock,
bolts missing from bottom of steering column,
wrong steering column,
4wd not working,
popping out of reverse,
paint flaws,
no hood support,
no vacuum canister for the brake system,
clutch slave cover damaged,
holes cut in the frame,
pins the wrong size on the front springs,
rear ubolts held on with CASTLE nuts stacked 3 deep,
e/brake cable stretch TIGHT,
e/brake boot missing,
your brand new tire has rock rash,
door has cracks,
the doors are full of bondo,
signal light mount loose or damaged,
glow system faulty,

further:
idler link shot
pops out of 4th gear
injection pump needed rebuilding
hoses and belts shot
tires were shot
original rims had one with a plate welded in to bolt it on

there was more but you get the idea... a sweet looking 'veneer' ride.

this was one slick sale. find someone that doesn't know a thing about cruisers and dump it on them.

I feel for the buyer but as i have said before it is a "BUYER BEWARE" world out there.

I have the pics if i need to post them up.
