Helping out my son with his recent acquisition:
1996 Ford F-150, regular cab, SWB, 2WD. 4.9L I6, 5 speed manual. Tailgate latch needed some repair to function like it should. Easy fix. Probably took longer to hack repair it with sliding bolt locks, than to have fixed it correctly. The truck has seen too many Michigan winters. He got this from his father in-law. It came with a broken passenger side radius arm. Gave the FIL $100 for it. Found that the spring on the driver's side was also broken, so replaced both springs/shocks/radius arms.
A couple of weekends' work, along with some Amazon sourced parts, and it's back together:
Took it for a short test drive and it rides really good. No wonky steering, death wobble, or strange noises. That 4.9L I6 is a really good engine, so it'll last the next owner longer than the sheet metal will...
Unfortunately, the FIL dropped another bomb on Christmas Day: The front fuel tank leaks.... So now we're waiting for that to arrive. Can't (in good conscience) sell it with that leaking.
