@wngrog Great tech on the Sniper. I’m itching to install mine. Telling myself I need to replace my valve stem seals first and then I can install the Sniper. I got mine from @FJ60Cam too :)

Side note: Are you running catalytic converters on your Sniper equipped rigs? I wouldn’t mind deleting mine.
I do run cats. They will smell like gas out of the tailpipe most times without.

Noted. Is it obnoxious like a carburetor with no converter or just noticeable? Like sitting idle at a red light with the windows down situation.

I see zero reason not to run a cat. Update it if it worries you

Yeah you’re probably right. I had a childish hope it would free up some power. Easier to leave in place for now anyway.

Where do you mount the Sniper coolant temperature sensor? I’ve read a couple different places work. Thermostat housing, some spot on the block(didn’t see a picture sounded like maybe the block drain?). Don’t really want to eliminate my stock sender.

I normally put it in the block but this time I’m going into the thermostat. I’m getting it from powder tomorrow.

Deleting cats frees up zero power. And everyone driving behind you will thank you if you keep them :D

You can offset the reduction in emissions by getting one of the smudge pots Nolen will post a video of shortly :grinpimp:

Ole R2D2 is put together. Engine fired perfectly. Everything sounds good.

Problem with the lower thermostat housing getting a good seal with the temp sensor so I had to remove it. I had a non smog lower that was brand new here and installed it and moved the temp sensor to the side of the block where I normally install it.

Now I don’t have any temp sensor. It’s sending an error code. Without that input I can’t tune it.

I’m going to toss a new sensor at it then if that does not work I’ll see what Holley says.

She’s a beauty.

I’ve read this before (probably from you) and now I’m racking my brain as to where this could be. I thought all that’s on the side of the block is the block drain.

Good to hear it’s running and tuned!

Yes. Replace the block drain with the sniper sensor.

Got a @Racer65 box today and a new OEM grill badge from Brookhaven Toyota.

Those 4Runner wipers are mighty tempting. I’ll probably do it. Eventually. What’s your feedback on those?

Ive had them on my 60 for some time. I also had to replace the internal arms on my 60 so I did it all at once.

Long day testing the Sniper.

Tooling along great this morning and it ran out of fuel on me and I coasted to a stop on the exit ramp about 10 miles out.

Went to check all my grounds and power to the fuel pump and snapped off the positive post on the powersurge

Luckily @under_psi was close and he strapped me to my buddys business with the Raptor.

My wife was close. Came and got me and I went home and robbed the PowerSurge off Ole Blue.

Got another 30 miles or so in and stopped for some Corn Free and when I left there I lost fuel again. Pulled over. Cracked all the lines and verified I was getting fuel to the PS and from the PS. Problem was from PS to Sniper I was only getting 20 psi and it needs 60.

Basically from there home if I kept high RPM the stock pump would keep up with the flow and I kept pressure up at 60 but if I let it drop below 3000 rpm it would lose “prime” and die.

Got home and pulled the PS and reinstalled it on Blue and have no issues.

Gotta figure this one out. I’m leaning toward a weak stock fuel pump.

Finally got the lift back to work on R2D2.

@FJ60Cam set me up with an in-line pump setup so I could get this thing down to one fuel pump to simplify things. Theory is based on the pulsating flow I was getting earlier.....plus I broke the positive lug off the PowerSurge so it had to be removed anyway to get repaired

So. Set up the new pump yesterday. Primed the system. Gauge looked good. Fired it up and it ran smooth as silk.

For 10 minutes then the surge returned.

I messaged Cam and Holley and they both suggested I had an obstruction in the return.

Seeing that the truck ran so good before the fuel injection and that it also has a brand new OEM tank I just assumed the return line was good.

Well that ASSumption was wrong. The return hard line along the frame has a blockage. I’m guessing the fuel pump return was doing all the work with the carburetor because once I bypassed the hard line I now have a perfectly running Snipered 2F.

But since this truck hates me I still have a coolant leak in the old upper thermostat housing I had powder coated. I’m going out of town for a few days so I put in an order for a new upper and a couple hoses to replace when I return. Hopefully that will get me there.
