I've knocked out a few more issues in the last couple of months and added some nice to haves as well:

  • Bought a set of Aqualu doors and had them painted to match the rest of the rig, or at least as close as possible. Just wrapped up getting the door stops and some new door hinge mounted mirrors installed.
  • New TRE's and a quick home alignment.
  • Fixed a huge exhaust leak which has so far eliminated the popping and backfiring on deceleration
  • Fixed pesky heater core leak that ended up being dry/rotten seals in my ORB to AN fitting adapters. Replaced the heater hoses as well to be safe

Working now to correct the following

  • Wheel width is too wide and wheel weights hit the TRE's and are tearing the boots. Looking to get the City Racer 16" w/hubcaps
  • Saginaw box is really tight and driving the 40 on the freeway is requires a ton of concentration, even at 55-60mph. Need to find a 3 bolt saginaw box with 16:1 ratio I think
  • Still need to address the ghetto ass rollbar and get some sliders made as well.

Looks great man

Thanks! If I ever get my 100series sold I can tackle some more projects

Ha. I know the feeling.

Trying to sell the Ram5500 to fund more 200 goodies

It’s the never ending cycle of cruiser life :)

Latest updates:

Purchased a new soft top and a new set of wheels from the FJ CO. Tires are 235/85/R16 BFG AT's. Working next on pulling out the 1990's 4" Rancho Lift and the 2" body lift that is on there so it sit's a bit better. It's kind of dorky looking at the moment. This truck had 37's on it when I bought it, and the suspension I think revolved around that size tire. Before these there was 33x12.50 on 15x10 wheels that looked great but everything else about them was pretty bad. I'm planning on ordering a OME suspension package on Monday and go from there.

Some more pictures from this morning. Top one is the rig just sitting normally. Rear wheel opening is about 2" smaller that the front. Bottom picture is with my floor jack propping it up to that it's more level. Which doesn't look too bad to me, removing the body lift will help to close the big gap

Are you planning to remove the shackle reversal?
Honestly not sure as I'm not very versed in them. Been trying to read up before I purchase a OME lift
Generally speaking, the SUA shackle reversal lifts the front 1.5”. Yours may vary.
A common solution is to use a 3” longer shackle in the back to even it out. I have this setup in my rig and I like it quite a bit. Essentially I get 4” of lift from a 2.5” lift spring. Rides nice on the hwy and flexes nicely in the rocks. Only downside is the front hangers find all the rocks when I go wheeling on trails with a lot of ledges to climb up.

Thanks for the reply! Do you think it's possible to close the gap that I have above? I think I have 4in of lift was hoping to get closer to stock with the new 32" tires

It wouldn’t be more than an inch, but I’m almost positive you have lift shackles on there now and OME offers stock height shackles as well

How much are you willing to do/have done? The shackle reversal is an automatic 1.5” lift. This is gained by means of lowering the spring eye on the leading end of the frame. To correct the lift, you would need to return to the stock orientation shackle out front and fixed spring eye behind the axle. I’m guessing here, but I think you’ll need new spring hangers & shackle eyelets (RuffStuff) mounted to the frame. Bolt or weld on. Additionally the current S/R will need to be removed- bolts or welds? This just gives you an idea of what might be necessary to go to a no lift situation.

The other way to level the truck, but keep the S/R, is to put a 1.5 lift out back. Springs or an extended shackles could accomplish this. (Don’t quote me on this, but I thought OME made a small lift spring.) Quality springs aren’t cheap, but extended shackles are pretty reasonable. You’d then want stock height front springs. Would this satisfying what you are looking for- hard for me to say.

Are you aiming for a stock look? Or you looking for better quality handling? In my opinion, the S/R can give great handling characteristics, but is definitely a departure from the stock form.

Goal is to just have a more sane amount of lift. When I originally owned this rig back in 2011/12 it had 37" tires with 4" suspension lift and 3" of body lift I had to air down to get it into my garage. I don't mind lift at all I just think I have an excessive amount. As far as the SR goes, its an older MAF kit and is all welded in so removal wouldn't be an easy task. I have folks local to me that could accomplish this but I think it actually handles pretty well with the new SR and new wheels/tires. The old set were 33x12.50 on 15x10" wheels that hit or rubbed everything.

called my local discount tire and asked if I could return them and go to a 255/85/16 and they refused to mount that size tire on a 6" wide wheel. I was pretty surprised by that since so many people run that combo here. So it looks like I am stuck with this combo unless I unload the wheels and tires.

Corporate-mandated liability avoidance. Go to a one-off mom and pop tire shop.

I figured as much. I definitely have a few of those in my area, but I liked the idea of being able to stop anywhere if I needed to. I had wheel adapters/spaces on my 100 series and got burned a few times by shops that wouldn't touch them. I'll have to figure out what my next move is

I got the tools here and just demounted my 42s last weekend.

Lemme know if ya wanna redneck em on…. I’ve done it a bunch. For reasons you mention above
