Pulled it out and took a quick test drive. This thing is so smooth. Tons of power too. It's going to be hard to part with this one.

Just always admiring your 80 and wondering if you have a build thread on mud or more pics of it...Is this one of those "no one puts Baby in a corner" kind of things?
@iptman LOL... I think I found your "origin" post. Is the 80 in the pic the same one you got from NY that long ago?Just always admiring your 80 and wondering if you have a build thread on mud or more pics of it...
Post in thread 'OLD - Breakfast at The Bone - Sat 8/14/21'Sort of… measured at the front skid plate area- to get the same clearance as John’s 100 series (with one size up tires) Id need to run a 38” tire. LoL. Thanks Toyota.
13” - 9.5” = 3.5” difference. So double 3.5” to get needed additional tire height. Currently 30.6” tire + 7” = 37.6” tire.
In other words it looks like I’ll need a 2”/2.5” lift and then the bigger tires. Let’s see…
2.5” Lift yields 9.5” clearance + 2.5” = 12” (ok getting there)
Now add a 33” tire…
12” + (33”-30.6” tire) = 12.4”
Ok. So 2” or 2.5” lift and a 33” will almost get me there.
Gah!! I did not want to bother with a lift… But I think it’s just inevitable on the 4runner and GX platforms. Toyota really should have provided more adequate ground clearance from the factory.
That brush guard is cool but mounted to the body like that I would think that would be a damage multiplier, Did they make one that was mounted on the frame too?Yesterday, I scored a H42 with split case combo on CL and a Con-Ferr/SOR brush guard. Don't know if I'll use the brush guard but thought it was kinda cool. My old transfer case is functional but has been cracked/welded together in the past and I don't trust it. I'll be going with a H41/split case combo with stock drum e-brake with adapter parts from Valley Hybrids. Might have to shorten the rear drive shaft an inch, but not sure yet.

Good call, it’s been media blasted and is ready for paint, I’ll drill some drain holes in the bottom first if they’re not already present. If you do install the confer brush guard I recommend drilling a couple drainage holes in the bottom if there are any openings on the top. Mine came with top holes in the tube, filled with water, then froze and split the seam.
I don’t know if they had a frame mount option. This one attaches where the fender mounts to the bib and on top of the bib. It might be good for just “brush”, hence the name, but bashing it in a rock crawling scenario could definitely be a damage multiplier. Or maybe people run them just to look cool….
Looks like an awesome heater. Is that a BMW flat twin behind it?Anyone else play with these 12v diesel heaters? I got one today and fired it up. It actually heated up the shop ( 2 bay garage) pretty good on a 26 degree day.
