My paint is fine overall, but the hood is oxidized and flaking through to skim coat in some spots. Passenger fender is slightly oxidized. How would you treat this? I'm afraid a scotchbrite, orbital, or really anything will take off a bunch of paint on the hood revealing more skim coat. Truck was originally white, got a CCOT full tub and resprayed rustic green in '08. Don't think PO waxed it ever. The rest of the body really just needs a good detail with polish & wax.
That lovelady offered her body to science.
Somebody has to donate I suppose
What's the status? Are you satisfied w/ results?Last night I went to home depot (and amazon) and bought:
2 gallons of CLR (pro?)
2 gallons of BLO
6 spray cans of fluid film
respirator
20 pack scotchbrite green
1 quart penetrol
(and then a cheap flux core welder and materials for that)
What else should I buy? FYI I already have a few cans of VHT rust converter.
Also I'm still not quite sure about where I will use penetrol in the mix.
Read this thread and your Warthog build tread multiple times as I try to determine the best approach for my own 55 project. Figured my question would be better to post here tho.
Could you elaborate how you address the inside of the doors on your 55? Specifically, treating the inside of the doors once cleaned and how does that work if peel n stick sound deadener is applied to the door as well? Apply deadener first then fluid film? Thinking the deadener would potentially trap moisture behind it?
Thanks!
Always tough to really tell, but any noticeable changes in type or amount of rust? In pictures your trucks look exactly the same (to me at least) but are you able to discern if the BLO preserved the bodies? Appearance wise I think you have the best looking trucks on here...the warthog and these two are just amazing!A little update. Some people have asked how often I treat the truck with BLO....
It was about a year for my garaged 40 and 45 since I did them so I washed them good and reapplied. No CLR needed, just a good soap wash then an oil rub.
Also, I used my 45 on the farm all winter and never washed the mud off. When I did the spring clean the mud came off the Fluid Film
Underside like a champ. Made washing it so incredibly easy.
