Does it not have a windshield frame?
Yes. It does. That’s what I typically do is just put it up to the windshield. And I could easily continue doing that. The new hood is a split hood and I actually paid a s*** ton on eBay years ago for a completely mint chrome strip (pretty rare to find). I was thinking of doing the gas shock thing instead of the hood up thing and probably dent the hood strip.

It sounds like finding or making a proper hood prop might be easier. The benefit to a hood prop is having the option to tilt the hood against the windshield if you need more room to work. I always use a rag where they make contact.

That is a good point. Was thinking previously of cutting out the side mounted one on my later model hood that’s currently on there and using that one. The split hood had a different center mounted prop.

I always lean the hood on the cab w/rag if handy. Have paracord to go from hood latch over roof to tie to back bumper - wind will blow the hood closed loudly and it doesn't take much of a gust to do the dirty work. Extra paracord is always handy to have around.

Good idea.

The hood blowing shut is a nightmare scenario to me. I just imagine it becoming an amputation waiting to happen.
I wouldn't be lucky enough for it to be my head, I'd be one of my favorite fingers. 🤣

I have a foam block with a notch cut into it that goes on the gutter to act as a pad

I have a rope on my roof rack for the same purpose.😉

Here's how I did my gas stays. Did some math, then welded some brackets onto the hood and firewall where the math said to put them.

Alternatively could be bolted brackets. I was just in a position where I didnt care about paint. Bolting to the under side lip of the hood is easy enough though.

There is a pad from toyota that fits on the hard top rain gutter to provide some protection.

63119-90030... it is $5

It’s funny cause I obviously knew my hood opened up all the way to rest on the top, but I always used the prop instead. When off-roading with @65swb45 I asked for his assistance on adjusting the carb and he said something to the effect of “well first raise your hood up all the way” haha.
I never looked back after that; such a nice feature. Can you believe I was adjusting my valves crawling between the half opened hood??

Had one on my hard top but I run a soft top. A rag or something will do just fine. Thanks for the link though!
that’s sweet. I wonder where to get that.
