Man that color looks great. Almost like that 2006 Avalanche color. Orange looks great on 40's. I was shooting for something lighter, but I like the way it came out. Let the wheel bashing begin. They were free so I took-em.

That is one NICE 40. I like the lift and stance. What size and make of lift do you have?

Thanks, the roadside pic is just after the frame off resto in 2002 (right before I got stationed in Japan (Yokosuka).
Anyway, it had 2.5" Downey Rancho springs front and rear with Confer 1.5" lift shackles and rancho RS5000 RS5112 shocks in the rear and Rancho RS5000 RS???? in the front. The Rear springs rode light s***e (they're too short, the shackles were always vertical), so I switched the rears to Man-a-fre safari springs (HFS or OME's are next) which are definately softer and give a better ride, but I don't know how long they'll keep they're arch.
They are narrower than the 1980 and newer model springs (I guess this is to make them work with all models of FJ40's). They just supply bushings with thicker sides to take up the gap between the shackle and the leafspring. They do flex very nicely though.
I kept the Downeys upfront because they are seem beefy'er than the MAF's and I have the winch and dual batts upfront. They just seem like they'll hold the weight better longer and they ride fine.
HTH
BTW, I only saw a few 40 series in Japan and no BJ44's. That is a sweet rig. SOOOO much potential. Congrats on the find... Now load up on JDM stuff to finance your build-up. It's all HHG;)

Oh yeah, the tires are 33" PROCOMPS on 15x8 American racing Baja rims.

Weekend warrior, for now.

Not a daily driver yet, but soon. Just done with 1-1/2 year build, '76 frame, '77 tub, 78running gear, SBC, SOA, SR, flipped front springs, metal tech cage.

Nice! What kind of bikini top is that and how did you attach the nylon straps to the back of the tub? I'm more interested in finding a bikini top to cover the entire family roll cage, but I don't know where to find that.

I am not sure what brand of bikini top it is, it came with the original cruiser, it doesn't cover the entire cage, it stops about 6" past the B pillar. I attached the straps to the inside of the rear fender radius on the rib using original bolt holes in the tub.

TPI and Spector both have family cage bikini tops. I have the TPI one.
