I’d also recommend looking at the Squid Bikes Gravtron.

I’d love to build my own bike and it’s totally like me to do that instead of buying, but I just don’t have enough knowledge of all the intricacies to trust myself to do so. Bike shops in my area are pretty much all about e-bikes now and renting crap to tourists.

Totally get it, Chris.

Check out State Bikes too. Value oriented with good performance built in.

I saw some dudes demoing Canyon bikes on my ride in Santa Cruz on Saturday. They are great bikes, but probably min 3x of what you paid for the Priority, so...

Now that I'm at the computer vs on my phone, one issue I see is that it doesn't have super low gears. This would be an issue for me, but I'm guessing that won't be an issue for you in FL.

50:26 actual gearing plus a 0.527 hub low gear is 1.013 final drive, equivalent to about a 30:30 on my gravel bike, but I have a 30:40 (0.75) low gear and it's barely low enough for the climbing that I do around here. My mountain bike has a 32:50 (0.64) and I use that gear plenty. ;)

Map/Pic from Saturday's ride. My partner (GF's kid) did the whole 20 miles and 1300' climbing on his little 20"er. He's just about to graduate to a 24"er, but he's gonna need a jock strap and a cup for awhile and I don't think he's going to be super comfortable with that. The whole ride was 19+ miles with the last 7 miles on the mean streets of Santa Cruz including the pictured brewery stop.

I took that into consideration and also one of the only complaints from the many reviews and read and watched on that model.

Like you said, being used primarily in Florida I should be OK. For me, the point of this bike is for mostly street use for exercise. I would just destroy a road bike with my style of riding. (Jumps here and there, hoping curbs, hitting the ditch for traffic).

I’ll definitely post this baby up when it comes and let y’all know what I think.

I did exactly that. I have a pretty racey, light road bike on which I put some low gears. I was riding just like you're saying, always hitting dirt, jumping off the curb, etc. I broke a carbon handlebar going over the bars on a dirt sidewalk transition and a carbon fork jumping off the curb trying to keep distance from a mom and her kids during covid. It's all fixed back to riding now, but I never ride it anymore because...

I took those as an omen to get a gravel bike and now I'm on my 2nd one, having upgraded to get bigger tires. My first one was a steel Kona that would only fit 34s. My new one is a Salsa Cutthroat that came with 55s and would fit bigger. It's more like a drop-bar mountain bike, really. It's awesome.

i bought a canyon because my local bike shop had no stock during covid. then it burned in a fire and i replaced it with another canyon. i’ve had excellent service and the bikes have been absolutely a blast. i would go back to canyon any day with the experience i’ve had. i know not everyone has had that same experience but i’ve been very happy with my mountain bikes. can’t speak to their gravel bikes nor can i speak to the priority shown. it looks cool but i also do use my low gears a lot. even my gravel bike i like the low range for some hills. i have a norco search gravel bike. it’s ok.

That was quick😁

Not sure how I missed this thread. I've had a lot of bikes over the years and like my love for Land Cruisers they're usually utility bikes, vintage, Japanese or all three. Nothing crazy or rare but solid stuff that got me around on and off the road.

Surly Long Haul Trucker (sold)
Surly Ogre (stolen)
Centurion 10 speed (lost)
Nishiki 10 speed (stripped for parts)
Miyata 312 (sold, bought back, sold again)
Miyata 1000 (sold, sadly it was too big)
Puegeot UO8 (stripped for parts)
Raleigh Sprite (w/ 3-speed S-A geared hub - I'd love to build another bike with a S-A 3spd though)
etc etc

Currently I'm on a 1984 Trek 830 frame - fully rigid MTB made in the US with British-made lugged Reynolds steel - that I've spent a lot of time modifying to my taste. Something along the lines of a Sheldon Brown or Grant Peterson/Rivendell-type all-rounder. I can use it for zippy commuting, load up the panniers for grocery store runs, comfortably pedal bumpy dirt & gravel all day, do some light mountain biking, and fully loaded touring. And I'm usually ripping past the spandex mafia on the streets & trails, it's surprisingly quick.

Soma Fab Oxford bars w/ shellacked cloth bar tape
Nitto dirt drop stem
Shimano bar end shifters
Shimano Deerhead front & rear long cage derailers
Sakae triple crankset
Dia Compe canti brakes & levers
s***ty rims (looking for a set of vintage Japanese Ukai rims ... one day)
MKS Sylvan pedals & toe clips
Brooks B17 saddle
Panaracer Pasela gumwall tires
Tanaka steel fenders
Blackburn? rear rack
Arkel waterproof panniers
Swift Industries Paloma bar bag

I think next on the list is getting rid of the triple chainring and moving to a wide double. Currently looking at vintage 50.4bcd TA cranks, or a modern remake by Velo Orange, IRD, or Sun XCD. Everybody's out of 165mm crank arms for my short legs though. I could have something like 48 and 30 chainrings and 7spd rear freewheel with an extra large sprocket to act as the granny. Essentially I'd use a 10spd chain and run the setup as a 1x7 most of the time (kind of modern in theory, with everything moving to 1x systems), but have that 30t chainring and big 34t sprocket on the rear as my emergency bailout for climbing when I'm loaded.

She’s fast! Looking forward to getting used to it. (Never rode with drop bars)

Little comparison vid of the Gates carbon belt drive and Shimano Alfine hub

If you can keep a 40 running, you can build a bike. You’ll need some very specific tools, a bike stand, and patience. I don’t like routing cables, and I always get the bike shop to cut my steerer tube. And building wheels is a black art.

It took me 10 minutes to remove, clean, grease, and install two cranksets today. 5 minutes to remove, clean, and install a 54 tooth ratchet and a 36 tooth ratchet in my DT Swiss hubs. I swap handlebars and stems on the regular. You really can do this.

And if all else fails, Youtube is your friend…

Currently re-building my Ritchey Timberwolf steel hardtail.
I spy a Brooks B17. Those Bridgestones are quality rides, and you’ve got a nice tire size for bombing around town. 10/10. Love the Surly Km as well. I had an Ogre - the same bike but with more braze-ons - but it got stolen from my garage. I miss it. Wasn’t much that bike couldn’t do.

Yeah…but did you peep the Brooks grips on the handlebar? 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾. No matter-it’s relegated to Mrs Hog since she didn’t like the first bike I got her, but “the white one” fits perfectly! Ya don’t say…

Brooks Cambium on the Surly too. It’s only 1x10, but that KM might be my favorite bike. You’re right-there’s nothing it can’t do. I think the Ogre can take bigger (wider) tires. I put a basket it on it so I can ride one of the “littles” in it.

Homeboy-what part of town you in?

What part of town? You must be near Denver too. I'm in Five Points. If you're here too, the last photo kind of looks like ... maybe Ruby Hill Park where the big electrical transmission lines cut through. Wild guess.

That pic was taken on a cardio base ride on the Lakewood Dry Gulch trail. But I’m in Crestmoor. Driven through Five Points many times and seen a couple of Land Cruisers on the street. One of em had to be yours…

Lakewood Dry Gulch is a nice ride but so haven’t done it in years. Maybe I’ll head out that way before the snow flies. I’ve got a baby blue 60 with white stripes, 40 wheels, rear tire carrier, Gamiviti rack. I’m actually in the Cole neighborhood but I say Five Points because most people don’t know where Cole is.

That wasn’t the rig I was thinking of, but I’ve definitely seen yours before. Denver is RICH with old Cruisers.

Damn…it was almost 100° a couple of days ago and you’re already talkin about snow!😂

You know it'll be here before we can blink!

Say, you weren't the guy I ran into commuting via bike a while back, are you? I was wearing a Solid Axle Summit shirt with "IH8MUD" on the back and you came up behind me and asked if I owned a cruiser. I think we were heading west on Louisiana west of Wash Park.

Did the guy who approached you look like the brother in my avatar? Then probably not...at least I don't remember that conversation. Cause I would've assumed you owned an LC and just asked you "what series?"
