placement of saginaw bracket ADDED SOME PICS

I am just starting the saginaw change over and have looked at the tech site but am conflicted. any one with suggestions or lesson's already learned. Main concern is if i put the bracket flush with the frame i will have to drill right through the area that the two channels meet. i suspect this will be hard to keep staight.
but if i mount it higher will it interfer with my bumper and winch.

its all about what will fit, there is no set way to put it, for example i crammed mine as far back as i could into the truck. a little tilted. as long as the parts line up and theres no interference you can mount it wherever

With a good drill bit you will find the frame steel very easy to drill compared to the thick scab plate. Start small and step up in bit size always works for me along with plenty of quality cutting oil.

I did the same as camcruiser13 and mounted my box as far into the sleeved frame rail as possible at a small tilt to get a good joint angle on the steering shaft and avoid the "spud shaft".
 
well i assed up and bought a kit with the bogason thinking it would just be an extention of the same thing. if it is the i am with you i will avoid it. right noe i am waiting on a correct box from crusier sol.
 
I would mount the box as parallel to the frame/ground as possible. This way you will still have a compound angle on the RH threaded tie rod end (connected to pitman arm), but you will avoid the extreme compound angle that results from positioning the gear box nose low---DON'T DO THAT!!!!! Too many guys mount the gear box nose low for whatever reason, evidently not realizing that this puts the end of the pitman arm up in heaven, and not realizing that the pitman arm does not drop down when the differential drops down?????
A 1.5" hole saw easily cut the hole in the front of my front crossmember---no brainer!!!!
Ok to push back of gear box back into crossmember, provided to put back (replace in another area) any metal you cut away, but also keep in mind that you will need access to back of gear box to install set screw into u-joint or spud shaft, so don't paint yourself into a corner.
 
Thanks downey that is what i was concerned about. i knew there had to be a reason for the placement in most of these pics. I am a real professional corner painter. So nose up and watch my pitman angle as well as my steering rod angle.
 
Couple of lessons learned for me:

When I did my SOA/SR, I whish the box was a bit further back. The front edge of the box interfered with my spring hangers which caused a bit of issues. See the picture.

Also, I wish my box was either higher or anlgled up more (greater angle for the pittman arm) because it won't clear my spring pack on the d.s. when turinging right. See picture.
