In the fallAny gatherings on the east coast?
Just catching up after being offline at a family wedding over a long weekend and seeing the understandable questions re: location.
Itās a dilemma for me. I recall the NM site being alongside the river, shaded and more scenic as well as closer to Antonito (about 15 miles, half paved) for fuel/supplies. Trails seemed closer with more choices. La Jara seemed more open with more room to spread out at the campsite. But, if I recall correctly, itās 25 miles of backroad from supplies and a long drive into NM if we want to do trails there. Seemed both locations could accommodate trailers. Both are first come, first serve. No reservations but both look like plenty of room for dispersed camping in addition to the prepared sites. While the USFS description of Rio de los Pinos mentions just four sites, the drive through video I posted earlier shows 10. Just want folks to have the best possible time and leave happy. Altitude is close but 1200ā higher at La Jara, which might make a difference for lowlanders.
After exchanging some messages with Mark @abqcruiser and John @4Cruisers we'll throw it open to the sty. My own preference would be to return to our first choice at Rio de los Pinos and make it work. Need a short turnaround on this decision as Ron and Jeri @scrapdaddy are leaving Friday and others may be heading out early also. We hope to arrive on site Wednesday pm, 7/6.

Might be batching it myself...still to be determined. Bring Jeri's wine! Hope your sister-in-law recovers fully. We just received some bad news on our end. My sister in law who was going to run the farm for us has had a small stroke ( TIA ) ?, so Jeri will be staying behind. I'm heading out by myself and make the best of it. I'm not going to lie, won't be as much fun without her. If I don't get lost I'll see you all there.![]()

Well, right now I'd kill for a voltage regulator. My pig is down until I can find one. The one I ordered was late to be shipped to me and now the postal service seems to have lost it.What's everybody's favorite spare parts you like to bring along on a long trip. There's not too much left Toyota on my 55, so it might be somewhat easier to find a u-joint or motor part, etc. I try to bring spares of things that have caused me problems in the past and a wheel bearing/seals, u-joint, ARB airline repair. Generic stuff like duct tape, bolts/nuts, zip ties, etc.
I've always been freaked about snapping an axle type event with no one around, so I've tried to over build things hoping I'll never push it to the limit.
What do you bring.....
What year is your FJ55? I may have one that will work up here in Los Alamos. Part number?Well, right now I'd kill for a voltage regulator. My pig is down until I can find one. The one I ordered was late to be shipped to me and now the postal service seems to have lost it.![]()

It's a 77, but it has the older 3 wire regulator. I've been searching online and ordered an aftermarket one from partsgeek. Not sure if it will get here on time. I also purchased one from O'reillys that supposedly is going to be ready for pickup sometime tomorrow, but I'm not very confident. What year is your FJ55? Or change to an internal regulated alternator. I swapped to a later 60 series and used one of Coolerman's connector kits that by-passes the external regulator.
