Incorporating part of the Continental Divide into PP2022 would be epicAlso nearby in Southern Colorado is the Platoro area that @Lifelong40Fan has mentioned, which is not far north of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, owned jointly by Colorado and New Mexico. There are FS roads that head south from the highway between Chama and Antonito that take you to the railroad tracks out in the boondocks. Probably some good dispersed camping in the area also.
I could certainly help with some advance planning w.r.t. potential camping spots and trails. Some of the areas are on the list of places my wife and I want to check out further anyway. And there are some roads we drove on 20 to 25 years ago that we wanted to see if they were still drivable.
The interactive map (routes superimposed on aerial photographs) on the Great Continental Divide Ride website is a great resource. The trails traverse a lot of the areas in Colorado and New Mexico that I've mentioned. Check it out here:
