11 piggies so far have campsites and 1 fj60 off-spring.
Sounds like many of us have some work to do if we are going to actually drive our illustrious 55's to the event. I for one stripped the 2F engine to the bones and it is in the machine shop getting sleeved and balanced (burning oil badly ). Hope to have it breathing again by early Feb. Plenty of time for a healthy break-in.

Attached is a camp map showing who's where.

Glad to hear what B.C.Hashall has to say. Will you be joining us Ben???

That is awesome! CA to CO on a nice, fresh rebuilt 2F!

I can feel the excitement!

I can see it now.

Do we have any Production experts coming? This needs to be documented with videos and testimonials. I have a Gopro and a crappy Drone with FPV camera, but it would be awesome i we could get a Pro Drone flying. I might be able to snag one from work wo some sweet pig aerial views. Maybe we need @JD Films to show up.

This is the drone we use for our LiDAR surveys. $8000 drone with $250k lidar machine hanging from it.

I just now saw this thread. Sounds awesome but not sure if I can make it. That's right around the time I'm editing my yearly desert racing video. My pig definitely won't be going anywhere until 2018-2019 if I'm lucky... If this becomes an annual event I will definitely plan on it when it's finished.

If anyone wants to send photos after it happens I will make a front page post about the trip on my vintage off road site, Off Road Action.

Have you guys heard of the FJ Cruiser Summit in Colorado mid July? My friends at Total Chaos Fabrication make the trip out for that every year and I've seen pics of a couple pigs and FJ40's out there. That's on my list to make it out to also.

So it seems as if there is at least a mild level of interest in a Pig Party such that it might be wise to start cataloging and discussing various trail options in the area.

Unless there are strenuous objections, I will start a new thread in which we can review trail options and possibly even plan a schedule...

High Country Pig Party 2017 Trail Discussion/Planning

Hand held work?
The Baofeng handhelds have become really popular in the desert racing industry. They start at $25 for the 5 watt and they also have an 8 watt. They make a longer antenna also. And they are dual band with VHF and UHF freqs. In desert racing we primarily use the VHF band. Most trucks have a dedicated radio mounted in the truck but handhelds work good also if you don't need a really long distance and want to use them when hiking around. They also sell the programming cable for $7 and you can pre program channels. These types of radios work much better than CB's.

Why start another thread, only the ones going will be discussing the trail rides. Two different threads will get separated. Ben can help us find mild and maybe more challenging trails. If some want more thrills, we can go in two different groups for a day or so.

I have a bunch of 25 watt UHF repeaters at work. You can place them in strategic areas or run them off your truck battery. We just have to broadcast in 460 - 470 mhz.

One other thought - if you do not have comm capabilities in your rig (HAM/CB), thing about adding something for this get together so we can be in contact during the trail runs.

I've been meaning to mention that cell phone coverage at cayton campgrounds is poor at best. It's pretty good in Rico and, I imagine, even better in Telluride. I think the radios would be a great idea. I know nothing about them, and what will work out there though, so any insight would be great. If the ones that @JD Films mentioned will work in the mountains, I'm game for those. The price is certainly right.
