The Baofeng handhelds have become really popular in the desert racing industry, They also sell the programming cable for $7 and you can pre program channels. These types of radios work much better than CB's.
If you guys order the Baofeng radio order the program cable and download the free CHIRP software to program your radio, trust me if you are my age you DON'T want to program with the buttons on the radio.

I have several and they work great for the money..

Do you need to take the HAM test for those. I bought the book last year and fall asleep within five minutes of reading it. :)
Allot of businesses use the VHF band and I doubt any are taking the test. I don't know anyone that has. Should be no problems using them in the mountains. If you happen to be on a channel that someone else is using be courteous and change channels.

J Mack,

When you say "your age" what if a guy is really old, can my kids figure out how to program them? I'll buy a couple of them and bring to the Pig Fest so I have all bases covered. I have a CB already.

Ron(I think), thanks for that thread on stock 2F altitude adjustment

If anybody is just reading this thread about the Pig Fest Party, it was posted in the other thread about the camp site filling up, might want to check it too.

Edit.. Megadoomer, would you work magic and add Riderjgs to the list, #19

That's fine, but just remember my wife goes with the wagon! :) Just kidding, no really she likes to talk, just kidding, no really. :)

I have been following this thread since it was started. I wish my pig was in better condition. Only had it sine March of 16. Just now on my second tank of gas. Still has the stock drum brakes and the power booster is non functional, so stopping is an ordeal. Now that my shop is finished enough to be functional, I hope to get some changes made. Picking up a set of fj60 hubs next week to convert to disc front. Have components to do the rear in my storage container. Plan is to do power steering conversion with hydroboost disc brakes. At this point it might be a pulled pork, but don't see that being nearly as much fun as driving it there. Would love to see that many running pigs at once. That area of Colorado is awesome.

I think most of us are scrambling to our pigs in shape. Keep at it and hope to see you there, right now it looks like we can double up on most of the sites.

very serious maybe. :) just need to get the piggie in better shape. But first need to make sure my 100 is ready for HIH and the gf's FJ is ready for the FJ Summit. I might go ahead and reserve a campsite, this sounds awesome!!

Timmbuck2,

Show the pig some love, I mean how much do you have to do to the new ones. :) Hope you make it and if there are no spots left, we can double up spots.
